This is interesting. Put a 440-C blade next to a compass and watch it go berserk. Put a S30V blade next to it and it hardly moves. Is it the Manganese content?

I've read that knives can get magnetized. There were a few threads I read that discussed this in detail.

Maybe this knife got magnetized?

It's brand new, so unless it happen at the factory...not sure???

I think the effect you're seeing is magnetism not blade alloy.

Many blades and knives I've received have been slightly to noticeably magnetized. I don'tt think it is unusual, especially if magnetic chucks where used in the machining process.

I hang my compass from my neck (on a strong lanyard) & tuck it in my shirt, for safety..hopefully that'll solve your problem.

Thanks. If I keep the two seperated they're fine. It was more of an observation than anything.

I to have had a few knives that were magnatized from brand new. Ive asked around and hear that it happens during grinding. I found out by accident one day when a stray staple was stuck to my blade. Ive also talked to the people at chris reeve and they said before a sebenza was put together they run the blades over a demagnitizer.
