HI,

I just finished stripping and convexing wakis with my belt sander, giving them the satin finish. I considered that as a upgrade in cutting performance.

they look good. now go out and try them out on a small tree and post some pictures of whats left of the trees :D/

WOW, those look great!

What kind of belt sander are you using? And did you remove the scales on the one waki? Looks like you only did the blade on one of them, is that right?

I love my waki, but yeah, the factory edge definatley left something to be desired, so I chose to reprofile and convex the edge on mine. I don't have much in the way of power tools so I did it all by hand with sandpaper and strop. ..yes it took for-EVER doing it that way.

I really want to go full sattin finish like you have but I don't have any way of taking the scales off and on, and havn't found an affordable belt sander that I like yet. -Pics of your guy's belt sanders would be sweet too by the way.

Anyway, nice job! :) ...here's a couple pics of mine just for fun....

Hi Richard,

It wasn't easy for a city dweller like to find a tree in the place i am in, but I definitely will try some water bottles.

HI Bryfry,
I uses a 4x32" belt sander with a ghetto mod ( i will take some pics and show you my rig when i am home tonight) for convexing the blade. I didn't remove the scale, however, since one of the blade color of my waki is arctic white, the color didn't show well in these picture.

I admired your excellent work, also your elbow grease effort on the edge mirror finish. Convexing and mirror finishing a SR101 requires extreme determination.

It was my initial plan to only convex the edge and leave the coating alone. But After a while, i was overcome by the lust of seeing the naked beauty of the SR101, then i stripped them naked.

Nice work, gotta try it some time.BTW,What make is the 4x32 sander, you used.

i made all of my own equipment including my belt sander. i can email you pictures if you want to see it (send me an email). i dont do any hollow grinds so i made it for flat and convex grinding.

you can use screws to reattach your scales once you take them off. there is a thread that tells where to get the hardware. you can make your own threaded bushings if you have access to a lathe. check out this batc i fixed up for tiburon http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=733447
