Hello everyone.

You may remember that I had my CQC6 confiscated as evidence some time ago after using it in a fight whilst on duty (as a Police Officer). I won't go into the details again, but I'm sure you'll all remember it.

Well, the case is over, arrested male is in prison, and for some time, no charges brought against me by my Internal Affairs Dept. and my CQC6 returned. So, here is a pic of it, along with my CQC7 and 5 !

One interesting thing to note is that the knife was confiscated without me being able to wipe the blood off. Yet, after a good clean, the blade and all metal parts are back to being spotless. The only area which shows it's 'abuse' is the micarta scales, especially when you look at it next to my other two.

The knife, by the way, was and still is cleaned with a Marine Tuff Cloth, and lubed with White Lightning, nothing else !

I was thinking of asking Emerson to see if I could get new scales, then I thought, why ? It's clean (I steamed them) and some honest wear just makes me feel happier in using it.

What do you all think ?

Anyway, hope you like the pic (it is my first attempt!)

Hey!

Good to hear that you got it back

I just can't help but think that it's rather "cool" to have an Emerson that's have been used the way it's supposed to be used.
Don't get me wrong, i'd really like this incident to have never happened, and i hope very much that it'll never happen again.

Please don't get me wrong here.

Anyway, congrats to getting it back!
Nice photo too, can you shoot one straight from the front?

dd,
Congratulations on the return. I remember your story well, and how bummed all of us were at the 6 being taken from you. Its return indicates one of 2 things...either the confiscating authorities are a really class act, or they didn't realize its value. In any event, that baby saved your life. Don't change anything...its the real deal just as it is.

"Honest wear",....good terminology. I thought that maybe I was the only one who felt this way. Allow me to contribute my encounter with "honest wear".
In 1996 my home was broken into during the night while my wife and I were sleeping. I awoke for no other reason than that the hair on the back of my neck was standing straight up. After calmly and quietly alerting my wife and arming her with her bedside Glock 27, I went to investigate my instincts with a SureFire6Z and Glock23 loaded with 135 grain CorBons.
I'm still not exactly sure what happened next. My tunnel vision was ridiculous. All I remember was four flashes; the flash of a knife blade (which wasn't my own), the flash of my 6Z, and two quick flashes from the muzzle of my Glock23. Throughout this, I recall absolutely NO sense of sound whatsoever, as though I were totally deaf.
My double-tap resulted in a downed adversary upon my kitchen floor. 1 round had entered his chest and the other his throat. This encounter took place in my kitchen, and my kitchen now resembled a slaughterhouse.
After the certainty that this invader was absoluteley neutralized, I then continued to clear the rest of the premises, making sure that my dead attacker was alone.
I then called out to my wife to give her the "all clear", who was safely locked in our bedroom, and on the phone with 911.
The aftermath resulted in my Glock23 AND my wife's Glock 27 being confiscated, along with the expected powder residue checks and thorough statements from she and I in the presence of our attorney. I was cleared in the shooting, and some 18 months later our Glocks were returned to us.
My Glock23 sat in an evidence ziplock bag for all of this time, coated liberally with blood and tissue. A two day soaking in BreakfreeCLP removed all but several coppery runs down the slide.
Lessons from all of this? For me there were many. First is that Gunsite training paid off. Second? There is no shame in relishing victory over an adversary. And third? There is nothing wrong with a little "honest wear" upon the trophy that saved your life. In my opinion, a battle proven weapon attains pricelessness.

DD - congratulations on getting your 6 back! And, here's to the admin weenies who decided a cop who did his job, and (how shocking) protected himself and his partner from harm should get his knife back!

Thanks to everyone for your good wishes, and I'm going to carry on carrying this knife as it is, no repairs or modifcations of any kind.

Ed Jezz, glad to hear your own experiences worked out OK. I too have attended Gunsite more than once, along with Blackwater when I did the Emerson Class there. Both teach real world survival. And I can recommened them both.

Congratulations on getting back the CQC6.
What is the current law on private individuals owning a collection of knives in the UK-if a brief update is possible.
There is a good chance I will be in your area sometime in 2001 and will let you know,in case we could meet up.
I see you have a digital camera and we hope to see more pictures as your collection grows.
Best wishes,
Oliver

Well, in short, you can collect knives here without any problem in itself. The only ones we can't have are auto knives and a very few others such as push daggers for some unknown reason ! The only restriction you have is that they must never be with you in public, ie, you can't carry them unless you have 'good reason' to. An example would be that I carry them as I use them at work as a Police Officer. A chef might carry his to and from work. A sikh may carry his for religious reason etc. etc. Hope that makes it clear.

As far as my collection goes, I have about 30 or so knives, 25 or so are Emerson's. The only customs so far are a CQC6, CQC5 & CQC7. I have another CQC6 and a neck knife on the way, and I was one of the last to get my order in for a CQC6 from Ernie, so that will have a late date on it when it arrives which should make it a collectors piece, not that I'd ever sell it.

I'll do some more pics of my knives and post them on here for you to see when I can just get the flash to stop causing all that glare on the blade !

As promised, a better view of my CQC6, after many wasted pics to stop the flash showing up in the blade.

Out of interest, I have the doctors report to say that the blade made contact with the shoulder bone enough to scar it, yet there's no damage at all to the blade and I haven't re-sharpened it or anything.

That should put to rest the arguments of 'Is the blade ground on the right side' and 'Is the chisel grind any good', etc. etc.

DD
Thats a great looking CQC6 with an earlier grind. Good shot.
Thanks for the brief on UK laws.
Best wishes,
Oliver

dd 1967,
I'm pretty new to the forum, so I don't know about the incident, but I'm glad that your OK and that you got your CQC6 back. It sounds like a happy ending all the way around. You've got a very nice collection, the CQC5/6/7 is the triple that I would love to have. I've got a question for you (hope it dosen't sound too dumb). I noticed that you live in England. Did you purchase your Custom Emersons from the States? Have you seen many Emersons in England?

Emersons are pretty rare in the UK, I only know of one other collection here, and yes, all my knives are brought in the US when I visit, or from people on here !
