okay, here we go: i was about to give up on the mail carrier! they normally get to my apartment very late, and today was no exception.
5:00pm rolled around, and i trotted out to the mailbox. nothing. 5:30. again, checked my mailbox. nothing. at 6:00, there was a knock at the door. i was sitting at the computer (it's in our living room). it was a girl with a box, and through my security door, she looked like she was selling candy. i rolled my eyes, and asked "yes?" she said she "had a package for me", and it was about that time that i noticed she was dressed in her USPS uniform. i ran to the door.
she needed me to sign for the package, which i did. the box was actually quite big, and my heart sank a little; i figured this wasn't my knife after all. however, it was odd that USPS would have me sign for a package (i never have before), so there was hope. i thanked her, closed the door, and headed for the dining room. under the light, i could see the sender: Dave's Knife World. elation swept over me like a wave!
the box was expertly packed: a large, tough brown box, then a foam bag, then peanuts, and inside was a bubble-wrapped box. it was quite large. i opened the inner purple CUDA box. inside was a catalog/pamphlet, a "care/maintenance" pamphlet, and a thick, padded zipper-pouch. inside that was my CUDA Maxx.
HUGE. that's the only way to describe it. just like many other forumites i've read about here, i laughed out loud at the size of it. the handle is indeed a blueish/purple hue, and sexy as heck. perfect lock-up, no blade-play when opened. everything is as it should be. the only gripe i might have would be the grinds being slightly uneven. one edge is ground higher than the other, and it makes the blade look slightly uneven when viewing the tip. it's minor, and i suppose it's understandable, considering how tough it must be to sharpen these guys. i've also read that they're hand-ground on a belt. tis the nature of the beast?
anyway, this isn't a review, just my first impressions and opinions. the Maxx is a great knife which will fit nicely into my EDC rotation. thanks to all BFCers who helped me to decide on this sweet slicer!
