With all the threads on Hard Use knives around I thought I would post some photos of my Lighter weight EDC's that I carry now. The newest one is the BM, but it's in the rotation now also.

Weights

  • Benchmade 710-1 - 4.7 oz
  • Spyderco JD Smith - 4.2 oz
  • Spyderco Endura 4 FFG - 3.2 oz
  • CS American Lawman - 4.6 oz

If 133g is a lighter EDC, what's a heavier EDC? :p

Aside from that, I think the Endura FFG makes for a great EDC!

I think the Endura 4 (waved) is my heaviest folder hah

Which is your favorite?

Nice toys you have there.

Edit: I must have been asleep at the switch, because thats the first time I have heard a Spydie J.D. Smith.

Nice collection and variety you have there.

Thanks. :)

My Demko Custom and ZT-0301 are the heaviest.

Out of the ones listed I like the BM the best.

It's a sprint run, you can still get them. :)

jim has agreat selection of medium task folders. the j.d. smith i would consider light duty& THe COLD STEEL FAIRLY STRONG DUTY. THE FFG ENDURA IS AS LIGHT AS I GO IN EDC& the benchmade falls between the cold steel & the endura.all are great quality.

Thanks Dennis. :)

If these are lightweight, what would you call a 2.3 oz FFG delica ;)

Everyone's definitions vary of course.

Cool comparison shots btw and cool blades. I'm amazed at how light those FRN FFG Endura's are for that much blade.

It's the FRN scales with thin steel liners that have been cut out too that really cuts down the weight.

I like folders with 4" blades or very close to it so they will be slightly heavier for the most part.

Nice set...love that Benchmade.

Thanks, I have more than that, but I just picked those 4 to shoot.

The BM is going to see a lot of pocket time. :)

Yah thought you liked the bigger folders so weight is increased a bit with the extra length. I carry a FFG Endura every once in a while and it's awesome how light it is for the size.

I have a variety of folders. :D

Yes the Endura 4 is very light for it's size.

jim i'm waiting to see if the b.m. 710--m390 chips in your carry. mine has been shipped should hit the door on tues. however i may send it with 2 other mint knives to knarfeng if he's ready for more of his excellent cutting comparisons. i want to mirrir polish the 710 & that would ruin it for knarfengs edge profiling.may have to order another 710 so i can start carrying.
dennis. incidentally kdstrick tested the sog on batoning pecan & mesquite, said the sog duratech20v never dulled but he broke the tip off batonning mesquite. i mentioned it was 60rr but gave him the knife carte blanche.

Interesting the SOG it broke.

After the cardboard there were no micro chips or anything in the edge so M390 is some pretty tough steel. :)

I've just entered the twilight zone. Last night I bought a CS Lawman and an Endura4 and was just now looking around for pics of both and hey presto! You've just posted both in the same thread.

I personally prefer heavier and more beefy folders for EDC like my ZT 0350CB and Spyderco Gayle Bradley.

I figure there are things that light and thin folders can cut(like nectarines) that thick and heavy folders can cut as well, but it doesn't go the other way around(like on wood, cabbage, corn, or 2 inch thick cardboard).
