Hi All! I just got my knife back from Mike Mann of Idaho Knifeworks and I wanted to share with you some pictures. I'm very VERY happy with it. :p

Thanks, Scott

It's called the Clif Canoe Knife and is 3/16 on the spine. Hand forged in 5160 and the blade is 4 1/4''. Total lenght is 8 1/2', and the handle is Walnut Burl. Thanks Scott

Mike and his wife are good people.
I have a very similiar knife from them. However, my Cliff Knife is 1/16" L6 with Osage handle.

Once properly sharpened, the thin blade cuts very, very well. Its cutting performance is on par with the AG Russell Deerhunter, which while much less expensive, sets a very high bar for performance. See Joe Talmadge's comments on the Deerhunter for example, which mirror my thoughts as well.

I was quite suprised with how hard Mike Mann heat treats his L6, he is running it much harder than I have seen in other knives. However, even at such a high hardness it offers good toughness, I have had no problems with chipping with accidental glances off bone, counters, plates, etc. and I am running the edge quite thin.

It is a well balanced knife, both in terms of physical dimensions and performance. A very cohesive design.

I used mine side by side with an old Gerber Shorty (the knife Cliff Jacobson based the design on) and the Cliff knife perormed every bit as well, and feels better in the hand.

I am a huge Cliff Jacobson fan, so it was only natural that I had to have this knife.

I am interested in hearing how the 3/16" 5160 version performs. I see it has a nice distal taper, which should increase its cutting performance by quite a bit.

Please keep us informed as you use the knife, any updates on its performance relative to other knives of the same type would be greatly appreciated.
