A few weeks ago, I saw a post concerning the cutting down of IZULA sheaths. Well, I thought I'd give it a go. The Neck sheath was my first attempt. You will (I hope) be interested to know I did all the work with the IZULA pictured in the sheath. I just kept whittling away at the sheath. As I got closer to the final shape I wanted, I began to shave, or scrap if you will, the rest. With the removal of so much material on the neck sheath, the knife comes out easier than before. Not so easy that it will fall out, but it is less of a tug on the neck when you give it a pull.

The pocket sheath is perfect for me. The width and curvature of the bottom fits my right front pants pocket like a glove. After reading about how some police officers are targeting people who display a pocket clip, ( a clear indication you are carrying a knife ) I thought it I would save myself the hassle and carry my IZULA as a pocket knife. It is within the size limit for a concealed pocketknife. Actually smaller than my Benchmade AFCK and does not tear up the top of my pocket.

Very interesting.

I'll have to say that I see the benefit in the neck sheath mod much more than the pocket sheath, but if you say it fits better, than I'll have to take your word for it.

I am a front pocket carry guy, too, and haven't found the sheath to be an issue - I did find any wrap (leather, 550 cord, gutted paracord) on the handle to be less comfortable than skeletonized, though (I've not tried izzy scales though).

I've considered a slim kydex fold-over sheath, but like the shape of the factory one to serve a thumb push-off when drawing it.

Good point. I really like the thumb push-off for the pocket version. You can "one hand it" rather easily. I took off the bottom most rounded part of the sheath to do two things, shorten it, and have a flatter area to better conform with the shape of the average pocket bottom.

I figured as much... perhaps you're just wearing the wrong pants... :p

The mods are cool - most people would not start hacking away at their sheaths, but your work looks well thought out and executed.

did you mend material onto the front.. I just don't see how you just carved this out as the stock sheath doesn't have enough material in the front to put a hole for lanyard.

Um...

It comes with a hole for a lanyard...

Nice work. You really removed a lot of material. I haven't had a problem with my sheath as it is but I usually para-cord it to my belt.

Nice work!
I've done more or less the same with mine as you did with your pocket sheath. I find that it feels better in the pocket, and is less prone to shifting to some awkward position.

I did not add anything, it is all removal. Just go slowly as you get close and you will be okay.

Last week I did the same thing to my Izula sheath as your pocket version. I like the way it sits in the pocket better as well.

If you look at the first picture before he shaped the sheath it does not show a hole at the tip of the blade, this is why I was puzzled.. they're two different sheaths.?? or am I blind..??

EDIT: OOPS, I guess you have to read the 'caption' before you look at the picture.. its a pocket sheath... LOL, little details, details........
