My D2 Extreme came through for me in a big way

I decided to take a day trip on my 4 wheeler the other day to take some photos of a really nice stretch of coastline.
I haven't taken the trail before but my neighbour has many times and he told me that it was a nice easy trail. With this knowlage i decided to leave my TOPS Tracker home and opted instead to take my D2 extreme Ka-bar.In the eagle sheath I had a swiss army hiker and 6 feet of 550 pracord.
The trail was nice.I was flying along having a great time getting muddy and generally enjoying myself. After about an hour I came to a huge open field so I decided to open her up and really fly. However after about 50-60 yards i noticed water was spraying at me from the tires. Then I felt the bike start to bob and float some and I knew I was it trouble. So I cut hard and throttled up trying to get clear when I sunk.
The bike was stuck in 2 feet of peat and mud.The trail had taken me into the middle of an old peat bog that had overgrown with grass. My bike is pretty big (kawasaki KVF 300 4X4) so I got lucky that the mud didn't plug my exaust.I tried to push it out but it wouldn't even budge.I knew I had to get something under the tires so I took my D2 extreme and went to work.I cut about 5-6 trees about 2-3 inches around limbed them and juncked them into 1-2 foot legenths and packed them under the tires.I used the boughs to walk on because the 2 feet of mud was getting tiring.
Them a plan came to me.I opened my steath and pulled out the paracord and tied it to the throttle, wound it over the handle bars so I could throttle the bike while I pushed.the tires bit into the mini-logs I had placed under my tires and it slowly crawled out of the hole.I walk-drove my bike to solid ground and gave it a once over to make shure nothing was broken and I headed for home at top speed.the whole ordeal took almost 4 hours and I was exausted.
The D2 extreme performed extremly well as a light chopper. It hacked through the softwood trees and boughs easly considering it isn't supposed to be used as a machete.Having the eagle sheath also was a blessing because if I didn't have the pracord I would never have been able to get my bike free of the hole the way I did.
I'll post pics as soon as I can.

Fantastic story and I look forward to seeing the picture. I am glad you 4X4 came out ok and its good to hear that your Kabar held up man.

Ka-Bars are oddly some of the most legendary and underrated knives at the same time. Nearly everyone has read some account of some idiot who has bent or broken one while using a Ka-Bar as a throwing dagger.

My household beater is a black 1271 fighter. It is the beater because I can literally beat the hell out of the pommel with a rubber mallet. I have cut nails with it that I couldn't get a hammer claw on while doing flooring, pry baseboards, cut out carpeting, batoned it through the nails and shims in a door jamb that was so tight to a cabinet that I couldn't get a sawzall in there.

I love Ka-Bars because they are tough, expendable, and well designed for intelligent abuse. (Not throwing).

Great strory and glad you got through with nothing serious. Looking forward for the pics!

I agree. I'm thinking of getting another one and taping the sheath right to the shoulder strap of my bug-out-bag. The USAF Pilot's Sirvival knife is a good choice too, for the same reasons. It doesn't cut as well as the Ka-Bar because of it's wide stout blade, but it's very strong and a bit smaller.

Great story! Using the paracord to engage the throttle was especially clever thinking!

thanks. An 8 foot piece of paracord is in my tool case from now on.

:D Don't know why you had to trouble the pore old Ka Bar when you had that Swiss Army Knife with you. I have read here that it will do anything that can be expected of a knife!:D :D :D

He he...none of this would have happened if you had a Honda! They are impervious to mud of any depth!!!:p :p :p

jk

Actually, I have a P650 so I am familiar with Kawi machinery. Glad you got it out ok.
