Just got a call from my mom today. They were out buying pet food and 2 guys with choppers came by and started hassling my dad at the car...my mom didn't know what to do and started shouting at them. My dad gave them the keys to his Merc and got a bit of a cut on his hand.

This really sucks. Thing is it happened like 5 minutes away from my house. I just hope they get into an accident.

Sounds more like a car jacking than a mugging. Sorry to hear about it. Now they have his address from the registration. That sucks. The world is going to hell in a hand basket. This past week a guy got robbed at gun point in the parking lot where I work.

That's a terrible thing to read about. Don't let him brood about it. It's bad enough to go through an experience like that without reliving it and second-guessing what you couldn't do at the time.

My dad had gotten mugged in the elevator of his office building. They took his wallet and his watch but couldn't get his wedding ring off. Creeps. He laughed about it later because when he had to get a new driver's license, they took a much better picture than on the old one.

It's not much of a silver lining to that cloud, but it's better than living your life in fear.

I'm very sorry to hear about that. As Esav said, hindsight is 20/20, and your dad didn't do anything wrong in my opinion to boot, so make sure he doesn't dwell on it. I hope that they are brought to justice, and I hope you guys get your car back.

If the Benz is less than about 5 years old, the Teleaide people can disable it remotely and track it by gps.

And tell your folks that their house will likely be burgularized in the next few days.

Also, think hard about everything that was in the car, credit cards, a check book, insurance cards, even just an old electric bill stub or anything like that. Certainly a house key, but don't forget that a garage door remote is basically a house key too.

And he should go see a doctor if the cut was made by a knife or something - you never know where the blade was before he was injured with it...

John...

Well...it was sort of a car jacking as well wasn't it...at first my dad took out his wallet and gave all the cash he had but they weren't satisfied so he just gave the car keys...

Gollnick...

It's one of the early models of the current S-Class (so about 5 years old)...it's his company car and he was supposed to change it anyway...it's been giving him trouble anyway...
he's spent almost US$16k on repairs on it in past year or so and i think he's kinda happy someone's taken it off his hands...

Thing is my dad told me my mom was very brave at the time...she was shouting at the lousy b*$tards and all that but only now she's suddenly realised it was a scary situation...i think it was adrenaline at the time...

My dad doesn't carry his sidearm with him so i don't know whether that would have made a difference. HE keeps is for home defense.

I think i have to call them up to check whether they had anything in the car with their address.

Anyway, everything is ok now and the only thing he needs to think about is what new car should he get...ehhehe...i'll post that in Gadgets and Gear hehehe...

They rolled out Teleaide in the S-Class first. But I don't know how it went in UK. A five-year-old S in the US probably does have Teleaide. But in the UK, I don't know.

Some people get the shakes from adrenaline and some fight back. Your mother's instincts were very good. She told them there was a line they couldn't cross.

I got everyone confused.

I'm in the UK. My parents are back home in Malaysia.

Hey P44 ~ Sorry to hear about yer dad... Hope all is well with your family...

Yes...All is well...i told my dad to check the cut and actually after that he already went to the drugstore or somewhere to get it cleaned and everything.

I also told him to be more careful with the house now since they might have our address AND REMOTE CONTROL (and the cat food). He probably changed the codes for the remote anyway. Must remind him.

He told me that he no longer wants a big car. Probably going for a BMW 5-series now.
