Here are some pics http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v310/yoippari/
This is one of my dads knives. His dad gave it to him quite a while ago and has been laying around for as long as I can remember. He says that he thinks it was hand made. To me it looks like it was designed for a convex bevel. the fittings are brass, and the handle is wood.
oal=12 1/16"
blade=7 1/4"
thickness=5/32"
width=1 9/16"
reverse blade=3 1/2"
I can't find the PoB. It seems to be right where the gaurd meets the blade.
It has a flat bevel to an edge, but it is not sharp. The back edge is less than 1/32" but does not have an edge.
Not sure of the weight.
the tang is 9/32"x3/16"
Getting the guard off was a challange due to rust build up. but the keeper I just loosened with the tip of a karda.

edit I never finished the handle is...

Looks like first-class workmanship. I always check out the fit of the guard to the ricasso of the blade. A sloppy fit tells me a lot about the maker's skill. This one looks rat-tight in your pics.
BTW, what a story. :)

One thing I can say for this is that it feels well made. There is no rattleing any where.

The wood handle does not line up perfectly to the brass is my only negative comment, and that is just an imperfection that may have happened with age.

I think that with some sand paper, and a little (that all purpose german oil) this should clean up to be both usable and pretty.

As already noted, the guard says a lot.

It looks to me like it was fitted to match the three levels of the transition from blade to tang.

That is something indeed.

And I love the patina.

The guard does not taper down to the small portion of the tang just the blade and the transition section. It does overlap the smaller part of the tang a little though. It fits the blade and transition sections great.
I figure if it fit like a glove I would never have been able to get it off with the amount of rust that came off while I seesawed it back and forth:).

What do you guys think of putting a convex bevel on it?

Hi Yoippari,

Nice Bowie, It might be worth posting on The Bernard Levine Knife identification forum{blade forums} just to check whether it has any value before you do much work on it.
