He took it to work and it rusted pretty good in his pocket I'm assuming because of him sweating from working. I would usually use Brasso and a Qtip, but it has a pretty dark stonewash so I don't wanna polish it up with the Brasso. What should I do?

Living in the rain forest of the Pacific Northwest, I'm a big advocate of Frog Lube for a clp. I've even seen it make surface rust disappear.

What kind of steel on your dad's knife?

Until you can get a Frog Lube kit, maybe just rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball, then whatever clp you have access to for now.

S2 is 440C. I have a boker federal that's 440c and I've had no issues after carrying it all summer here in the sticky northeast.

I did treat it with eezox, however.

With that stone wash I would just take off the actual red rust with a non scratch sponge and leave the patina there. Any kind of polish is gonna mess up that finish.

Some 0000 steel wool and elbow grease should remove the surface rust, my sister's Biker Saga santoku in 440C also developed a bit of rust and I was able to get it off that way without marring the finish.

Well, even though 440c is stainless, it's not stainproof. Just use Super Premium Polishing Paste, Flitz, or steel wool and you should be fine.
