This isn’t a creative photo, but I finally got the bead blasted version so I think this makes a complete set.

Very nice!
I've got only one (large black). :D

Your two black ones look a bit different. Is one of them refinished?

Thanks for sharing.
Tom

Thanks,

It's not refinished, the top one is a Black TiNi finish and the other is a Matte Black finish.

Nice collections

X379 - The first Daggerts were produced with a shiny black TiNi coating shortly after introducing them we switched to the matte black TiNi finish.

The new coating looks great. Did you change just the Daggert's coating or the whole line (i.e. Seal Pup Elite and so on)?

Changed the coating on the Daggert and Gov-Tac knives. The SEAL Pup Elite and others have remained the same.

Chris, thank you for your fast answer.

I wonder if there is a particular reason for that. I mean, wouldn't it be less expensive to use the same type of coating on all TiNi coated knives?
I understand and agree that a non reflective coating is better suited for tactical knives like the Daggert and GovTac than the shiny coating, but because the customer has the choice to buy eighter a black TiNi coated or an uncoated version of a particular SOG knife, I would consider all black coated knives "tactical knives". But maybe the shiny coating is more appealing to customers, or maybe it's more durable than the other one or something like that? I personally think that the shiny coating looks really pretty, but would prefere the matte one just because it's the "no sh!t approach" to a blackened blade.

How about the new SealTeamElite, shiny or matte?

Just some thoughts (and questions of course :D).

Chris@SOG; just hoping you could clear this up?
So if the metal surface of the knife is given a mirror polished first, and then is coated in black TiNi; the finishing turns out to be something like a fine blued coating in a gloss black.
And if a beadblasted metal surface is coated in black TiNi; it comes out a very dull matt black.
In short the coating material is one in the same (gloss and black), the result of which depends entirely upon the surface finish on which it is applied on to make the difference?

That is my understanding of the process also. The coating is dependent on the finish underneath.

The finish on the Pup Elite is more of a gloss finish but not mirror. The SEAL Team Elite is similar but a little more matte. The only knives that really have a high gloss finish TiNi finish are the Tech Bowie and Bowie 2.0.

I am getting the daggert 2 sometime down the track and am curious as to why the bead blasted version sometimes have 2 red stripes at the bottom and top bit of the handle whereas this one (which I like better) has the black stripes. Is it because this one is a special edition?

Any idea if aerosol Bar-B-Q/grill/engine-high-temperature paints work?
On second thoughts, I suppose it's not quite a good idea having to heat up certain blades though; especially if the handles are rubber and such...

johnu2 - the reason for the different color washers is that we first did the bead blasted version as a limited edition and it had the red washers. When we decided to make it a regular production item we switched to the black/gray washers.

GIRLYmann - Most likely not a good idea to heat of the knife as it could melt the rubber handle and if you heat it up too much the heat treat might be ruined.
