I've been into slip-joints for a while now, but didn't really get into them until about 3 yrs ago or so. My Daughter has shown an interest in some of my hobbies/interests (Guns & knives), so I thought I'd let her start her own knife collection.

I believe the 1st one I gave her was a little SAK, then I bought her one at Bass Pro Shops, allowing her to pick whatever she wanted. She chose a Case tiny Trapper in orange G-10 (Orange was her favorite color back then, although it's changed since).

She has quite a few knives now, including a few Spydercos & some other "modern" folders, but she only uses her slippies.

Her 2 favorites are a Victorinox Spartan & the tiny Trapper.

In her collection are also a Case Seahorse Whittler (In orange G-10) & an old Girl-Scout Scout knife that I believe is from the 50's.

She's 10 now, but it's encouraging to see her use her knives for everyday tasks.

The only problem that I see is her wanting to carry 1 of her slippies with her everywhere, including school, which is a big no-no.

I just thought I'd share this & maybe hear some stories from others that have children that are following in their parents foot-steps here.

It sounds like you're raising quite the young knifenut there. Congratulations, your daughter has excellent tastes.

My little girl already has a couple of slipjoints earmarked for her. One is a Kerry Hampton KHnutbuster, and the other is a A.G. Russell Texas Ranger Toothpick. Here's a picture of her at a week old with the KHnutbuster.

She's a bit bigger now, but it seems that she's as fond of knives now as never. Just a couple of days ago she was playing with my Ohta and threw quite a fit when I took it back.

That's awesome!!! I got my daughter hooked with a steel warrior black cherry saddle horn trapper. She is going to buy a rough rider this saturday when we go upstate. There is a knife shop up there that carries Canal street, RR, old schrade scrimshaw series and Vic saks. It's going to be the first one she buys for herself!

Yep. My son Travis who turned 13 in May, doesn't have any interest in knives other than Traditional.

I haven't looked at them for awhile, but I'm guessing he has 15-20.
A few Case, Schrades, even a couple old Camillus knives. They only one I had a hard time letting him get, was a Steel Warrior. He wanted it because blue is his favorite color...
Before it arrived, we had a talk about the good old knives he has, and I told him not to expect much out of the SW, because I figured it would be junk.
7 dollars and change delivered and made off shore. Well, I was more than a little surprised when it arrived. F&F is good, blades snap nicely and are damn near centered, and it is was actually sharp :D

His prized knife out of all of them is a Case yeller peanut that was givin to him by Peter (stockman242) a year or so ago. Whenever we go camping, fishing or hunting, that is the knife that he takes with him.

I'm proud to say, he takes very good care of them and is extremely careful when handling them. And he knows what tasks a knife were not meant to be use for :D

No kids here but I have been feeding my 12 year old nephew a steady supply of SAKs and slipjoints for the last 2-3 years now. He loves em and always carries one when he's not in school.
