I can hear the soccer moms screaming now lol. Beautiful daughter, can't wait till my daughter's old enough for her first knife, just made her her 1st para bracelet today and she asked if I can make her a pink one tomorrow

it's great that you're spending time with your daughter and teaching her both science and knife skills .

Morimotom: Thx I will do that!
JimmyD: I hope this pic will piss off someone! And then I will say: " Im sorry that you feel that way, does this mean she cant shoot my AR15 anymore either?"

Beautiful daughter and beautiful knife. I look forward to giving my niece her first knife. Sister-in-law is due in two weeks!

Kick- How old is your daughter, if you don't mind my asking? I'm curious, my daughter is 6 and I've let her use my Leatherman Wave a few times to whittle a small branch. I'm trying to decide if she's ready for her own knife or if I should wait a couple more years. Thanks!

Ono, She's 6, and has 2 older brothers, and 2 younger brothers. She got miffed that I was letting her older brothers whittle with their knives and she wanted a knife. Since she had done some chores around the house, she specifically wanted a " pink knife with a clip on it". I must emphasize that she does not use a knife now without direct supervision from me, and that goes for the 2 older brothers that are 10 and 8 yrs. I talk a lot about knife safety and how to hold the knife, and how to cut safely with a knife, and ask what if questions like, " what if you were cutting toward yourself, and the knife slipped. What do you think would happen?" - things like that, you know, to get the cogs turning and get them thinking about consequenses. With the older 2, we do more things like feathersticks, firestarting, and more bushcrafty type stuff, but daughter isn't interested in that too much.

Thanks man, I think I'll be following your lead. She's been watching me with my knives for awhile and always asking questions, so I think it's time. :D

im in the same boat. my daughter is 8 and in the last 6 months i have been letting her hold my knives and teaching her more regularly. i think it might be time for me to let her start using one. i have a spyderco caly jr that would be a perfect first knife for her.

Very cool. What model is the knife?
Here's a pic of my daughter with her new pink Dozier folder. We are taking apart chicken hearts to see the atrial and ventrical chambers, also looking at the aortas. That's my mini afck in the foreground. Also, can anyone help me with my Picassa so that the pic gets embedded in the text area, instead of just giving a url. They grow up so fast..today a kabar tomorrow a Sebenza. I Purchased pink griptillians for my two nieces the other day for our summer fishing trip. Great picture sir.

I know that young lady has a couple of proud granddads!

I gave, with their parents' permission, my granddaughters, age 7 and 9, each a Spyderco Grasshopper with their names lasered. Their dad loves to deer hunt and the younger one is already making noises about that. It's convenient as he hunts in back of their house.

I would post a pic of the two but y'all would really be jealous of me so I won't.

I made my daughter her first knife when she was 5 and her first 22 rifle when she was 6 she is 7 now she only handles knives and and firearms under my supervision kids need adults to show them about these things and safe handling imo that is 1 reason kids have gun accidents they don't have an adult that teaches them about guns then they sneak around and mess with them when no one is around because they are curious the responsibility is ours to teach our children these things here are some pics of my daughter

Thrill- im not sure of the model number of the Dozier, it can be had thru tomars kabar's. it is the drop point model, as I think they have a clip point available now also.

My daughter is 2y8m old and wants me to show her my knives and "ledermans" ... She keeps warning me that they are very sharp...Can't wait she will be old enough to handle a knife herself . Till then I let her hold a sheathed BK14 (I know she can't pull it out herself) .

OMG! What are you doing buying a dangerous knife for a little girl like that!

j/k :D ;)

I got both our kids knives when they were about the same age as your daughter looks. I think it's great that you're teaching her the right way to use knives and respect them. Keep up the good parentng skills.
