trinity river 8/23/2014 with allyse, we had about 6 or 7 runs for the day all on cut carp, it was kind of a learning day today figuring out what works and doesn't when it comes to hooking the gar, we managed to land a nice little 30 pound gar(unfortunately he didnt eat allyse's little rod i set up for her), i set the hook on the biggest freshwater fish of my life..hooked it on 80 pound braid with lots of drag on the reel..the gar just surged upstream and found a tree to tangle me in like it was nothing..was fighting it from the kayak through the tree for 20 minutes..really a shame..seriously nice fish..we had a good time on the river and saw lots of neat things, gonna go get some money magic carp for bait and im headed back this week..gonna try to get back on the monster gar i lost.
