Flashback to Sunday May 1st, it was a warm sunny day filled with yard work and cold beer maybe a little Tequila. I'm anxiously waiting for 9:00 pm so I can place my order for the Dirty Trick 12. You see I really needed a Bussikin that's at least 12" long for all the yard work I need to get done. Currently I have a little D-Guard Battle Mistress and Trough Raider for big chopping work. Just as I'm about to place my order, a Combat Grade BB13 is offered on the exchange. To make a short story long, my DT12 became a BB13 and I couldn't be happier.

Your hand will thank you...I hate D-guards for chopping. (Thought they were cool til the first time I jammed my hand due to an awkward cut angle, fatigue, etc)
My BGBB13 has certainly been used and abused. Enjoy yours!

D guards are for combat and cool factor.

Nothing more IMHO

I did something similar only I did the reverse, I bought littlehoot's Battle Grade Basic 13 before the DT12 was released and now find myself in the situation having to justify both when they are so close in size. On one hand the BG B13 is more of a machete and the DT12 is more of a heavy chopper, so maybe this yard is big enough for the both of them to have reign together.

I'll probably regret not buying the DT12, I had hidden tang plans for it if I didn't love the new handle. But I couldn't pass up that much Infi at a price I could afford. I'm still setting on Triceratops triplets that are just too damn cool to let go...

The BG (B)B13 is more of a machete?? Why. because of the bolo blade shape? I don't consider it suitable for much of the work I'd grab a machete for. I'm not sure I even looked at the DT12; but, if it's more of a chopper than the BB13, I probably should at least give it a courtesy glance.

I don't really see the BB13 as a Machete, at least not the Combat Grade like mine ( I haven't handled a BG) at .220+ blade thickness. Not to mention over 1 1/2 lbs of Infi . It's all chopper to me. I know a lot of people have thinned out the profile to make them Chop even better. It works well for my needs and expectations as is but I may play with the grind if I ever feel like I need more.

I kinda agree and see where people are coming from (I THINK) on the machete thing. When I think of a machete I think of something like 18" long and like .12 to .16 ish blade thickness. You've gotta be able to swing this thing around.

I understand other stances as well though (I THINK) because many many companies (learned my lesson about naming names 😅) have been releasing things that are like 10 or 11" long and .18" all the way up to a .25" thick and calling them machetes for yeeeeaarrrsss.

That being said my battle grade bb13 would suffice as a machete replacement in a pinch. It's much thinner than the combat grade though from my knowledge.

I was speaking to the Battle Grade, I'd call mine a heavy machete. Machete is a loose term for a long, thin and broad blade. Thicker works better for heavy timber and thinner works better for thinner vegetation. The CG is something I'd call pure chopper, had one years ago and was a bit too much for me... the Battle Grade is more to my liking overall.
