I don't really even know why I'm posting a thread about this, maybe I feel like I'm doing it out of respect for her..... My dog Sassy, a Beagle/Bassit Hound, died a little more than a day ago, I just got to my mom's house and saw her grave for the first time about 45 minutes ago. I had her for 13 years, I got her when I was 4 years old......She just went to sleep and stopped breathing.

You have my sympathy and understanding. They are more like family members than many human family members.

My heart goes out to you John. It's tough losing your friend. She was Blessed to have 13 years by your side.
Blessings to you from Texas...

I'm sorry for your loss John. I lost my best friend 2 years ago and I still miss her. Remember the good times you had with her. She will live in your heart forever.

She must have been treated very well to live to such a senior age.

My sincere condolences,

Sorry to hear of loss.

I know this is never easy.

Take care of yourself.

And don't forget the good times you had with your dog.

hardest thing i ever did, put down my rottweiler when she got cancer.

i still think about her, she was a great dog! she used to run back and forth across our couch growling like a nut for minutes on end. musta been something about the cushions that made her happy and excited. tore up the couch, but it sure was funny to watch!!

I am deeply sorry for your loss!! My heart and prayers go out to you!! Here is a poem that has helped me in times like this; I hope it helps you.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

You have my condolences.

I've lost a lot of pets over the years, it's never easy.

Sounds like she had a good long life.

Very sorry to hear about your loss, John. I will say a prayer for you and your family. -DT

very sorry to hear about your dog. i lost mine a few years ago, and it still stings once in awhile. stay strong.

my condolences bro, i know how it feels to lose a dog, its never a good thing. I wish you all the best.

It's never easy losing a member of the family, and dogs are often the most devoted members of our families. At least she went to sleep peacefully after a good life.

I know why you are posting my friend. My condolences. Dogs are the best people. I dread it everyday and am thankful every day. They are God's gift. The Rainbow Bridge poem helps. Lord willing, we will be with them in this world and beyond.

I think God will let us be with our pets in Heaven, they never did anything wrong, also, can you imagine Heaven without any animal life? I can't...

I always try to keep reminding my self every time that pets normally only live for a short time (when compared to people at least). You can try to brace for the loss. But just think of a 13 year old dog as a old timer who lived a long time, and died satisfied with life.
