In an unprecedented act of knife nerdery i have created a working prototype of my dream 940 blade. This idea started because i love the 940 but wanted a better slicing blade. My solution is a taller blade with a FFG. The taller blade also allowed me to incorporate a spydiehole and ditch the thumbstuds. I also included a thumb ramp that extends the natural line of the handle and provides a place for your thumb for push cuts. Something else I thought the original design lacked.

Would love to make this a reality but right now funds are a bit low and the only quote i have so far is near $500 all told.

Would love to hear everyone's thoughts on the design though.

I wouldn't mind a thinner, FFG version of the 940 blade, but a taller blade would kill the 940's diminutive feel in the pocket. I like that it's half as wide in the pocket as a Spyderco, that's what makes it great. If I wanted a knife that was twice as wide, had an opening hole and was FFG, I'd just pocket a Manix 2 LW or something and call it a day.

Just a matter if personal taste, but a swedge on top would give it a bit more visual flair. Overall looks good though.

Ive carries a manix and trust me when i say this thing is no where near the bulk of a manix when closed. I too am a fan of the way the 940 disappears.

If I were doing it . . . I too am going to do this one day . . . I would keep the original blade shape, thumb studs and all and just thin out the blade especially in the tip area. For the tip shape I would go a bit more toward a Para2 I have no problem with that tip. Heck I carry a Pattada all the time; talk about a frail tip . . . no prob.
M4 though for sure.
Personally I will probably buy a Military in M4 and cut the blade out of that. I already have one Mili in M4 but I'm not going to give that one up. If I could cut the blade out of a Para2 blade I would. I haven't looked at the possibilities; I fear the Para2 may be too small. Don't know though.
