I dont leave home without it. A cheap Kick but handy. Use it most everyday. I attached a light and spare battery , with a ranger strap. Something I learned on this forum. It get used often, also. The bicycle inner tube also turns the leatherman into a makeshift vice grip. Ive used it at work several times.

Looks like a great set up to me:thumbup:

Before I grew compulsive and "needed" a different tool for every different situation, I "got by" from the time I was 18 until I was around 22 or so with just a leatherman PST. I bought it at Walmart for about 20 bucks my freshman year of college. I was on the rowing crew, and we had the kind of 8-man that bolted in the middle. We all carried tools of some sort just to help with taking the boat down so that we could transport the thing.

Simple non-locking tool continued on in the Kick. I like that tubing rig:) Very nice.

I get a charge out of other peoples gadgets...nice job. The Kick is all you need in a pinch, and at an affordable price!:)

What happened to the PST? How do they compare?

The PST was discontinued in 2004. That's the same year that the Kick was introduced and the Kick might be considered an upgrade to the PST (or the Sideclip). I like the Kick but I still carry a PST on occasion. The PST can still be found in new or used condition from some online stores.

Like the PST, the Kick lacks a locking mechanism (check out the Fuse or Blast if you want locking tools). But the Kick is readily available locally for around $22 which I'd argue is a really good value. The Kick weighs 5.2oz--not much more than the PST (5.0 oz) and Skeletool (5.0 oz). The Kick features Zytel handle inserts which are intended to improve the ergonomics of the pliers. Also, an optional pocket clip is available for the Kick.

The tool selection is slightly different between the PST and Kick. The Kick doesn't have an awl or a file. Here's a photo of both multi-tools. The photo is borrowed from an online auction that I won a while back.

Mea culpa. I meant to ask "what happened to the PST (thread starter) used to have?" Why get a kick if he had a PST?

Thanks for the input, though.

Maybe he just got bit by the multi-bug:D I personally have never worn out a multi-tool to the point where it NEEDED to be retired, but I have given some used ones away to friends....not to mention picking up a new one just because of the "well, I can't possibly live without THAT implement," factor;)

The only tool that I have "retired" is my Supertool 200. The brute just performed awesomely for me. It took everything I could throw at it and begged for more. I like the look of the new Core. However, I would feel kinda sad if it broke and I had to send it in only to get a Core in its place.
