My Emerson sharpening rig

I have made up an easy way to use the sharpmaker on my Emerson knives.

Most of the Emersons I have sharpened have had the factory edge somewhere between 35 and 40 degrees. So with the Sharpmaker being 20 and 15 dps I made up a stand for the Sharpmaker base that is 20* so I have turned it into a Sharpmaker with a 35 and 40* per side sharpener.

I just spend the time when they finally need sharpened to set them to 35* then put on a 40* micro bevel to knock the burr off.

Here is a pic of how I set it up. Kind of half ass but it works and is easy to set up and put away.

There is nothing half ass about this man, I have been failing at sharpening my mini commander for months now with the sharpmaker.

I had no Idea Emersons edges were ground at such a steep angle until now. I decided to just accept that my mini commander was never going to be sharp again.

This is a great idea, thanks for sharing.

If you haven't patented this yet😊, would you be willing to share the dimensions of the wedge so I could build myself one?

No patent on this bad boy!:p

I used a piece of 2x4, you will need a piece at least 8in long. Use a protractor to measure your 20* angle and cut a wedge out of it. Then I cut a piece of 3/8 plywood 2-3/4x7-3/4 and attach it to the wedge with screws or nails whatever you have. I just used scrap I had laying around the garage.

Great idea, thanks so much I have already given it a try. Just proves the best ideas are the simple ones!

Nice set up friend. I also use the sharpmaker, I hold the knife off the edge of the table and pass the stones on the bevel edge free hand.

I reversed the setup. Stood the knife in a clamp so that I can see down the edge, used the stone free so I could match the angle. Didn't try it with anything but my 7's and 14. Haven't been brave enough to try on my commanders.
