hey guys!

so.. i really wanted to make the ring for my girlfriend. i tried carving the waxes by hand, but that was a nightmare, so i designed the parts on Autodesk Inventor, and had them plotted in wax. The i sent those parts out to have them cast in white gold from my grandparents rings, which was saved for the purpose. Got the parts back, and cleaned them up (i dont have any pictures of them all cleaned up.. the battery died) then i took the parts over to my friend Stacy Apelt, who is a knife-making jeweler. in trade for a Wakizashi, he provided the skill to put everything together, as well as the diamond. he is the one doing the soldering in the pictures.

i just wanted to share something that i am pretty excited about right now. enjoy!

Not only is that a beautiful piece of jewelry, it holds special meaning and sentiment in it's creation. It will truly be a special day when she receives this.

Thanks for showing it.

Chris is, indeed, a talented person. He is going to make his special girl very happy. The wakizashi blade he brought is going to be stunning. I suspect he will be preoccupied for a while after giving the ring, so it may be a while, but the wait will definitely be worth it.

Chris, BTW, The word that escaped me when referring to the O-kissaki on a sun-nobi tanto is osoraku -zukuri.

Chris, Great ring, you have tonnes of talent and you have amazing patients for your age. You can go far. Keep on the good path and you will have a great life Jim

That looks GREAT Chris... you are quite a talented craftsman... and at such a young age. How could she possibly say no... :D

thanks guys!

really, without Stacy's help this would not have been possible. or the hep i got from Grant, the guy who cast thing ring for me.. it would still just be a dream. i greatly appreciate their help in making it come true. also, My drafting professor, Tom Pringle, helped me figure out the best way to model the ring on the computer, and then Gary Wainwright helped me make the wax parts. i am truly indebted to them.

and i have to thank all of yall for your help and encouragement. the only way i can heave this much "talent" at my age is the wisdom yall have given me, things what would have taken years to figure out, yall have helped me with.

thanks so much for all your help, encouragement, and insights.

That came out great Chris! I'm glad to have helped out with it all. I bet Stacy can agree that making engagement rings for people never gets old:)
Also, Your bronzes should be in mail before Christmas. Not having power for 4 days slowed me down a bit:grumpy:

Congrats!
Grant

That's a beautiful ring Chris with a lot of special meaning for the two of you. Looks like you learned a lot doing it too.

This may all be true but, the best craftsman can not make a great blade from a poor stone. You are excellent ore.

BEAUTIFUL...BEAUTIFUL!
Gracie will LOVE it!
Blessings & Smiles from Camp Bop, My Friend!
