I just had to make it MINE.....Osage Orange handles, scorched them just a little to bring the grain up.
Corby bolt pins, lanyard tube thru the rear hole.....rounded the butt end just a tad....
I stripped that bright green rubberized stuff off, but this under-coating would not budge, so, OK, it stays......for now.....

Watcha think??

those scales are beautiful man. that matte grey is the finish of the steel. takes a bit of sandpaper to remove

Man I am a sucker for osage orange. VERY nice job!! And like otis said above, that matte color is the unfinished surface of the steel. Can't strip it off, you gotta polish it.

Looks really good. Its crazy what you can do with a knife that already looks great!

deffinatly a fan, how difficult was it to make those handles?

Thanks for the input guys...
Penguin, probably just a couple hours of hands-on time, but I work on it over the course of 4 days or so.....waiting for glue to dry, etc...
I cut the scales to rough shape on band saw, glue/pin them up, shape handles on belt sander. I use the Dremel for the small corners around the guard area, then hand rub with sandpaper, 220 then 320, then finish with 600 grit. Then Danish oil for a couple days.

Here's a pretty good picture tutorial.

Yep, got Dremel and Scotch-Brite wheel for that:thumbup:

When I use only Danish oil I find that the scales can shrink just a tiny bit over time. Even when 5-6 coats are used. After the boiled linseed oil and laquer, I would recommend using a beeswax and oil polish. When I do this, I have never had any shrinkage. Except in cold water :D Oh wait- that's something else. Scales look awesome, and very well done. I do live in a very arid climate, so that plays into it as well.
