The really short version: Great product. Great service. If you
need a fire starter, order an Exotac, you won't be let down.

So anyway, I first ordered a NanoStriker XL last summer. I was very
excited to get it. The small package and waterproof design make
it almost perfect for edc. When it arrived it was very well put together,
asthetically pleasing and felt of quality. A while later I took it outside
to give it a try, and I could not believe what happened. The very first
time I tried it out a large chip came out of the metal scraper. :(

It was an almost perfect half circle about 1.5 mm in width.
Right in the center of the scraping edge.

Now I know this is a minor issue, and the scraper would still fuction.
The ferro rod threw some great sparks too. But to happen the first use
with a new piece of gear just really damaged my first impression. I didn't
feel comfortable carrying it at that moment so I put it up and decided to
go with another option for that time. It just sat in the drawer for a
while after that.

Just recently I happened to think about it and got it out to reconsider
useing it in a fire kit I was playing with. Totally by coincidence I had
that fire kit on me when a friend showed me his new NanoStriker XL.
Of course I had to show him mine and we discussed what happened.
His first responce was naturally: "Did you call them?"

No. I had gotten distracted and never even thought about it.
So we looked up the number and I called them the next day.

I got to speak with a warranty rep named Jeremy almost immediately.
He was very polite and helpful from the start. When I explained the
issue to him, he told me all I'd have to do was email them a
picture of the damaged scraper with my ID next to it so they could
confirm the damage and that it was really my item.

Slight problem: My internet was not working and I was not sure
when it would be again. When I explained this to him,
he offered to let me send a picture message to
his private cell phone and then he'd take care of it from there.
So I sent him the best pic I could get my phone to take and
sent it.

He texted me back a while later to confirm my address and
let me know that the scraper piece would be replaced free of charge
and mailed out that day. I've still not recieved it yet, but that
was only two days ago. I'll try and post an update when it gets here.

I definitely felt like the rep at Exotac went above and beyond his
minimum duty to help me, the customer, and that really makes a company
stand out to me. Besides, with all the rave reviews of thier products,
the chip was probably just a fluke anyway.

Good job Exotac!
