My experience last night. Spydie Nuts Look!

I just wanted to tell all you Spydie fans what happened to me last night. I went to Eddie Bauer to look at some knives while my wife was clothes shopping, and I asked the fellow working there if they had any Spyderco knives. I remember they use to carry the Ladybug with Eddie Bauer engraved on the blade. Anyway, this guy said Spyder what? I told him about Spyderco Knives and how good they are. He said,"Swiss Army knives are better," and I told him,"no they are not!,". You should have seen the way he looked at me. He must have thought I was a nut. Well, I am a Spydie Nut. Anyway, I left with a big grin on my face.

Spyderco versus "Swiss Army" -

For cutting ... Spyderco - no contest.

For screwing ... the SpyderRench is much more precise and versatile.

For getting into cans and bottles ... Swiss Army is still the best. And some of them come with decent scissors too.

But this does show that there is a LOT of room for expanding the market, when even in a gathering of culturally compatable people like the SHOT Show, a quick survey of passing bottoms shows that only a minority even in that crowd know what a pocket clip is for.

James, what are you doing checking 'bottoms' ? Shame on you !

What I think would be a great product, if a SAK maker or a Spyder/CRKT/BM maker would do it:
- a good steel blade, maybe a SAK-style utilitarian spear point
- a low profile one-hand stud opener
- a decent lock, like maybe the Boy Scout style leaf-liner
- throw in a few tools (flat driver, one of those flat Phillips drivers, can/bottle opener, handle tweezers/pick)
- maybe a pocket clip - preferably a deep pocket like the Gerber AR3.00 or Genesis
- wrap it all up in a PC, non-threatening RED SAK-style handle.

I guess it would kind of be like a one-handed "Rucksak" model, maybe a little smaller. Benefits are one handed open, locking blade, coupla nice tools - and totally acceptable to the sheep. One could even leave the fingernail opener on the blade for two-handed opening.

I think it would be a real winner, and open up the one-hand/pocket clip market to those who would never consider one of our black handled tacticals.

I guess the store guy had just insulted a spydernut

I don't know about you guys, but I find that seing the little spydie clip on a woman's pocket makes her amazingly attractive.

My solution:

Spydie Calypso Jr Lightweight on my right and
Swiss Army in the left pocket. Gotta have the can opener and corkscrew don'cha know!!!
