My experience with Chinese Bucks

OK as my name implies I am a Spyderco guy but I also have more than my share of Buck knives. I was highly skeptical of buying a Chinese made knife even one with the Buck name on it, but recently I have acquired 3 Chinese made Bucks. One is a Bantam lockback with clip and it may be the best deal in the whole knife industry. The other two are slipjoints, a medium trapper and a #373 medium stockman. I can't get over the fit and finish of the two slipjoints, they are absolutely perfect, came quite sharp out of the box and really "walk and talk." I've been using all but the trapper and have been very impressed. Now I'm curious about trying their Canoe model, does anyone know if it is a single backspring with a thick main blade more like a Queen or two thin back spring model with thin blades like a modern Case??

Welcome to the Buck clan!

Good question, I haven't got one yet, but I'd love to know myself if anyone has one?

A true traditional Canoe should have 1, but since Buck kinda "bucked" (blatant pun intended!!!!! :D ) traditional trends with 3 spring stockmen, curious to see if they did any updating to the Canoe.

Spydiefan, I have to agree on the Bantam. Inexpensive, light, sharpens easily back to a hair popper, and exceptionally cheap. I have bought two (lost the first) for my oldest son. He puts the Bantam through hell and it holds up great. As far as the Canoe, I don't have any experience with them. I'm sure someone will be along to help.

They may be nice (Chinese Bucks), but I just can't buy them. Personally, I'd pay double or more for an American Buck of the same model. As a matter of fact, I do on a regular basis. Just ask the guy that outbid me at about $50.00 for a 313 U.S.A. I asked before if there was ever a Canoe made in the States. The answer was an emphatic "No". I really like the pattern, but there's just something wrong about, in my opinion, the whole concept of a company that started making knives in a barn, running sweatshops in China. Since I've never worked in China, that may or may not be true. Buck workers in China might be some of their highest paid workers.

There have been quite a few Canoes made in the US, just not by Buck, if you really like the pattern you might want to check out Queen, great knives US made and D2 blades. I try to avoid made in China as much as I can I just picked up these Bucks for cheap and was surprised and the quality of them, very high.

I know that the china knifes are not as good...but I bought a Buck 373 just to compare it to some of my Case knives, well It's very well made, I also bought a Rough Rider, small stockman, it is also made in China. It is not anywere near the quality of the Buck.

...Buck workers in China might be some of their highest paid workers.

...Highest paid of *all* Buck workers (everywhere)???...

...Or highest paid of *Chinese* workers (in China)???...

I'd like to think that the Mexican workers who make Buck sheaths are the highest paid...They'd have to be, to afford those condos in San Diego... :)

The China-made Bucks are excellent, even if some here don't like to admit it.

Great knives are great knives.....period.

Don't matter where they're made.
