So for all CR nuts and non-nuts alike, I just wanted to share my personal experience thus far...
I received my first CR from a fellow forum-ite. It's something I had been saving up for, and greatly anticipating. It was a user Large Sebenza Classic with Micarta Inlays and I was thrilled to finally have it and use it. My first impressions of it were great! It was everything everyone had said and more. Amazing fit and finish, outstanding quality oozed from this thing. It was a user, so the clip was quite loose, almost like it had bent over the years of use. Not wanting to lose this expensive tool, I called up CR and asked if I could swing by and purchase a new clip (Luckily I live near Boise). I just happened to catch Anne (I think) on the phone, and she was a delight! I told her it was my first CRK, and what a huge fan I was. She invited me to swing by so they could check outthe knife and hook me up with a new clip. My friend (and long time Chris Reeve/Harsey fan) came with.
I arrived at Chris Reeve in awe and reverence. The staff was amazingly friendly, and seeing our absolute shock and amazement at just being in the store, they invited us to tour the facilities! I know this is offered to anyone, if they have the time and available staff to show us around, but I felt like a VIP. The gentleman that showed us around was extremely friendly and informative, it literally made my year to see all the great people at CR in action. Everyone was nice enough to stop work for a second to meet us and/or explain all the machines, etc etc. I met Lisa (AMAZING art work) and she was an absolute pleasure to meet. So was the gal at the front desk. I also got the opportunity to meet Chris, and was glad to have done so. I'm sure he was busy/disinterested that two drooling fans of his work were there (hopefully not annoyed) but I'm glad he was at least willing to shake our hands and listened to us gush for a second.
I have a few pics, hopefully the folks at CR don't mind me sharing, if so, shoot me an email or just Mod my post. And to everyone else, sorry for the quality of the pics, I was taking in the sights and sounds and not paying to much attention to my iphone camera, but managed to shoot a few:
Standing in front of the main floor of the factory, I was surprised by how small it was, the back area was probably a couple thousand sqaure feet with some side rooms where Lisa works, assembly takes place, and the blades are sharpened.
The machining in action!, I think the handles for the Green Beret knife were being cut here...
They were making the actual Green Beret knives for retired special forces, pretty sweet!
Blurry picture, but I nearly wet myself seeing the hundreds of sebenza blades sitting in these buckets:
Sharpening/blade finishing area
Well folks, I neglected to take pictures of the front or the sales/display area, and a few other amazing areas of the shop
. (yeah I wasn't totally together). I'd love to go back and do an "official" photo shoot with my SLR and write up for the forums. Who knows, but that would be awesome
Just wanted to say thanks to the great people there, thanks for making my day, and treating us so well. I am now a customer for life. Also want to add that instead of just selling me a new clip, they were nice enough to take my knife, re-bend the clip, cleaned it, sharpened the blade, and installed a new lanyard, all free of charge. Thanks for taking great care of me and my knife, and for making such a great product.
And of course, gotta show my knife!
