Hi! (sorry for being longwinded)
Just needed to share this:
Stupid me managed to damage my linerlock on my -98 commander, (nope, not for sale!) i was proving to a friend that it would hold up to the infamous "spine whack", so i spine whacked it really good, so good that the liner lock was deformed and the knife would show considerable up and down play (i do mean ALOT of play). (but the lock never failed)
I e-mailed EKI and talked to Carrie if they could have a look at it and she told me to send it in.
I did and at the same time decided to order 2 Commander trainers. (i've needed'em for quite some time now)
When this was all in progress Carrie quit at EKI and my order got somewhat delayed (which i didn't notice), anyway, Derek get's back to me and apologizes for it and says that he's going to send me a free t-shirt for the delay, whoa, talk about cool!

So, in the end:
I got my 2 trainers which are perfect ,knife training reached a new level.
I got my -98 served and it as good as new.
I got the ultra-cool "Viper" shirt!!!
Conclusion:
A big thanks to Derek and EKI in general.
Only problem is that now i'm even more addicted to Emerson knives...where will it end???

Off waveing and attack everyone and everything with my new trainers...

Great to hear 2Sharp. Now I have to get a trainer!
My experience with EKI customer service albeit limited has been excellent. I am sending in several knives for some basic touching up needed as a result of normal use. I e-mailed Derek first before sending them off and he promptly replied, addressing my questions and recommending that I send them in for evaluation. Its great having someone like him as a point of contact.

I have dealt with other major production knife company, who shall remain anonymous, that had little interest in dealing with refurbishing or maintainance beyond paying lip service to their own warranty. Good product, no support.

Hey Jonas, are the blades on the trainers aluminum or are they stainless steel? I have been wondering about that but didn't know anyone that had ordered one.

Its an Emerson thing. You wouldn't understand.

Michael,

Where ya been man? I have had pics of my Trainer up before! The blade is steel.

Jonas,

That's great man. Look, with all due respect (I'm not being facetious either) to A.T. Barr, personally, some folks like to spine wack their knives then they cry when the thing locks up!

At least you did not cry. (Because Suspects are not whiners)

But damnit Jonas! I have a Casio G-Shock, I don't beat it with a hammer to prove it can take a couple good wacks on the periphery!!!

I have a SS Case Luminox that I dearly loved, I was out running, and the damn thing was not a month old, and the pins in the rubber dive band were not set properly from the factory...the watch went flying and landed with a smack on the concrete.

Not a scratch on the Carbon Fiber Bezel, not a ding on the watch, but the minute hand fell off the post.

People rag on EKI, let me rag for a moment. I spoke with the President of Luminox, they would not replace the watch or fix it for free. The band is not warrantied. But the band did not break, one of the pins was not set correctly at the factory. The watch is intact except for the floating minute hand.

The watch does not have a scratch on it.

I'm getting another Luminox because I love them. I consider this happening a fluke. I'm not happy with their Customer Service though.

The next one will be the same model but with a stainless steel bracelet, and I am going to scope out the pins with a Jeweler's Loupe as soon as I get it out of the box. The now damaged one sits on my bookshelf as a testament to check things out carefully, no matter the reputation of the Manufacturer.

But you! You wacked the 98!

Shame, shame...

By the way, I have to send my Commander Trainer, which was made in 1998, back to EKI for reconditioning of the whole thing.

I sort of giggle when I hear all of these problems, that Trainer has been through alot, many reverse grip hookings of defiant limbs and many hits with the edge and point on an 85Lb Everlast Heavy Bag to get it to the point that the blade rubs the liner! Lock is still holding, but I want her reconditioned.

Hey Don,

Regarding the Luminox watch. I had one that ended up not being waterproof if you can belive it. It was pretty new, somewhere within six months. I had dove with it a few times with no problem. Then I went on a surfing trip for three days and somewhere on that trip the crystal fogged up with droplets of water. I was on land when I realized this so I carefully checked the crown to see if it had been loose. It was not.
Within a couple of days the salt had gotten the mechanism all out of wack. What a bummer. I should have sent it in but I just put on another watch and never got around to it.

I still think that they are great watches, so much so that I just bought my Dad the Titanium Luminox. eventually I will get around to one myself.

I thought it was really crappy that the watch does not have a scratch on it, the band is not broken or stretched, and the pins are functional, yet, the band came off and they won't fix it for free...incredibly crappy policy in my opinion. That means if they do not seat the pins correctly, it is your fault if the thing flies off of your wrist.

Like I said, I'm checking the next one close.

Don R:

Perhaps when you get your new one you could send the whole mess to BanditYO and have a custom Yo-Yo made out of them!

(Sorry Suspects, You had to be in chat last night to understand this one!)

Nah...HOWEVER!!! (pointing my index finger to the sky and shouting GENIUS!!!)

I could possibly have a Titanium YoYo Manufactured, AND...have Tritium Inserts installed!!!

MoooHoooHwahahahahahahahaha...

A titanium Yo-Yo? Hmmmm...Or better still, a titanium TACTICAL Yo-Yo. Yes. Yes, I do like the sound of that. Muahahahaha! (stroking diabolically long goatee).

OK, WTF did I miss last night? More yo-yo shenannigans? Hmmmm... Ti body, trit inserts, maybe spent uranium in each half, on opposite sides? Might get the momentum going easier...

You'd have to replace the string with chain, or something, though.

I use the Luminox watch on occaision and am dissappointed to hear about their crappy CS. When this watch needs replacing, I'll get another Casio. I just have a problem $upporting companies with poor CS.

Nimrod,

I know what you mean, but I juggle that with wanting something that is good. The Luminox thing was a fluke, but, they should have replaced it.

Sort of like the Smith & Wesson thing, I can understand a Boycott, but I know people that have sold Smith & Wessons that were made way before that ever happened. Sort of overreacting...

I just have to chalk it up to poor CS and will expect the same in the future. I guess if mine was not a case where something should be repaired or replaced for free, I don't really know what is. I would have liked to have been told that up front though.

Don,
Your experience with that particular model of Luminox was not a fluke. I have the same watch and it did the exact same thing only mine flew off my wrist when I punched one of 2 dogs that were fighting. (I was trying to break them up before my beagle embarassed my Shepherd/Bull Mastiff mix.) I tried using stronger pins but that didn't work. It has something to do with the angle that the band pulls on the pin. I ended up buying a rubber strap and the longest pins I could put in it. Went out and punched my punching bag several times with no problems.

Hi Don! i get your point on the spine-whack, i agree, but as you said about reverse hookings, wouldn't want my knife to fold then.
But yes, i'm very ashamed that i did it to a -98 commander

please forgive my stupidity...

So you actually don't hit your watch with a hammer?? that's strange!?
