My far out take on a Ka-Bar

This was commissioned by a solider on active duty in Afghanistan who wanted something special to commemorate his service. He wanted 'my style', elements that recalled a ka-bar knife, and materials that were symbolic of our country. This is what I came up with. Blade forged from high phosphorus wrought iron salvaged from a Wisconsin grain elevator laminated to 1084. Fire-etched mild steel guard and pommel (both inspired by ka-bar fittings), leather spacers, and 15,000 year old North American bison bone handle. The pommel is peened to the tang. I'm working on an inscription on the pommel that I haven't finished yet.

Super cool knife Scott. Love the story, the choice of materials, and the whole knife.

You did a GREAT job on that my friend.....really nice tapers on that blade, let alone the rest of it.

far out, man!

With a knifemaker with that history and a thread title like that - you just plain KNOW its gonna be a goodun!

.....and it is.

Knife looks great and I like both the homage to the Ka-Bar and the symbolic value of the materials chosen.

Hope the future owner makes it back safe and sound from the sandbox.

This knife could be improved by.....um.......well, nothing - it's already perfect!!

Seriously awesome.
