No bids that I saw, when I clicked on your link. ??? So, I'm guessing this guy doesn't actually own this knife?

I emailed the bidder with my suspicions. This identical set of photos has been up several times before. I am pretty sure Bud Angelo has this knife for sale at 7000$. The lousy pics, grammar, zero rating and ridiculous price are good tipoffs. I guess the concept is to snag someone into thinking they have found a bargain?? The worse case is the smarter guys who run up a good rating by buying 100 different stamps and 1-2$ items and then sell a bunch of them (who cares if they loose a little).... then sell some big ticket items at a good price and actualy deliver... then they post up tons of 500-1000$ items, grba the dough and shut down.

I am willing to wager a big pile o cash that this guy doen;t have that knife!

Interesting, no reserve and a very low initial price set by the seller. Alarm bells are going off like crazy.

The only way that I would even consider bidding on this knife is if the deal was to all be handled through an escrow company.

I think scam, too. There was a fellow in London offering Loveless knives for sale, that he didn't own. That was a year or so ago.

Last week there was a Loveless for sale on the Bay that had just sold a week or two earlier. The seller was using the same pictures and had it up for a low starting bid with no reserve. In the body of his description he stated it was offered elsewhere and might be withdrawn if a sufficient offer came. That fellow had good Feedback, but I didn't believe he owned the knife. Stolen ID? The auction disappeared within a day.

I,also, get bogus "Second Chance" offers on high ticket items I've bid on.

i'm surprised at the mention of nigerians.i thought they were confine to this side of the pond.seems like they're world renowned con artists - my uncle died and i need your bank account details to deposit $50m and u can keep 10 %.u guys get that one there?
the knife is a genuine lake?

I'll send him a bogus question so I can check his email header ... we'll see if he's from Glasgow. :D

harm,Yes,the Nigerian fraud scam has been reported on at least a few times here and the knife pictures appear to be an actual Lake. :)

Funny, his IP resolves to AOL from Dulles, VA ...
He promised a bigger pic, near the daily newspaper, for tommorow.

I emailed Bud. He thinks this is at least the fifth time his knife has been for sale on ebay. By somebody else.

Looking forward to that photoshop of the knife on the newspaper!

No worry, I'll post the pic here. I'm surprised he's from Virginia though, sure sounds like a non-native english speaker. What if we're all wrong and M. Bud Angelo has a copy :foot: :D ;)

Edited to add a thought: isn't this kind of scam a federal fraud or something? If we have proof he's a scammer, and in the USA, shouldn't we inform the cops about his scam and IP address?

I think ANY AOL account is going to be based from Dulles Va. And ANYONE can join, from anywhere. That is where the main AOL server and corporation are.

Well, I probably should've just kept my nose out of it, but I couldn't resist sending him a message that went something like this. "Umm, just a hint, but it's probably best to ACTUALLY OWN the knife you're selling! I told him the knife belongs to somebody else. Of course, he's not answered my message, and I really don't believe he will either. :thumbdn:

If that's a photochop, it's a really GOOD photochop. Different shadow depths. Might be a non-USA format on the date.

Hmmmm.... I'll be watching.

It is a nice pic. The seller is from Dumbarton, Glasgow (City of) and asking for payment in GBP. The newspaper says "Who we are tells the story of a genuine Potawtami"

I am guessing that there weren't many Potawatomi Indians in Scotland.......

Don't you know, there is a lost tribe of Potawatomi Indians that settled just outside of Glasgow about three hundred years ago. I think they went over in birch bark canoes. ;)

Bud Angelo just took this picture of the knife he owns that clearly shows the
"40" on the handle....but it is a huge pic and very crisp. He offered to photoshop it onto a newspaper, but unless Ron made two identical knives and numbered them both 40 then it is (in my mind)settled that the seller does not have this knife and is just another zero rated scammer. Bud is a straight up a guy... that being said I could afford this knife at 787$. Bud's more realistic price is a touch out of my range.

From Bud Angelo

Whoa, I am getting slower than I realized. It just occured to me that this is MY picture taken on the newspaper. The paper is from Elkhart In. We were founded by Potawatomi indians, and this year marks the 116th anniversary of the Elkhart Truth Newspaper.
I sent this pic to someone a few months ago to prove I had the knife. The picture is legitimate, what was changed in photoshop was the date. Man, these guys are getting clever! And I, unfortunately, am getting more forgetful.
True story Doc.
Bud
