Lately my Pioneer has been my #1 most carried knife by far.
I've never carried the same knife for so long.
The blade has scratches, the edge has sharpening marks, scratches on the spine from coins and keys, etc.
I've used it for everything from carving my initials and the date into trees during hikes (ON MY LAND), to cutting holes in soda cans, and scraping with the screwdriver.
It has served me well for close to a year now, with the screwdriver tool being used the most.
Yesterday, a situation arose where the screwdriver had a bit of torque applied on it, to really get a bolt tight.
The screwdriver now has a hint of bladeplay.
By no means is it severe, but there is more now than there was, and it made me realize something....

My Pioneer earned it.

I have been using it, and I see it as a "badge", if you will.
This knife has scars, and shows that it wasn't/isn't not a safe queen.
My knife didn't get play or scratches from staying in my cabinet.
I don't see it retiring anytime soon either.

Thanks for reading my short-little story.

Thanks for sharing. I know what ya mean, it definitely builds character. Heck, I have a couple of knives that I could tell you were almost every nick an scratch came from! You should post a pic of the ol' workhorse!

I guess you don't like it when people do that.... :o
I just think it's cool to come back in a few years and it sparks flashbacks.
It's always during a hike on MY land, never public land where it could be seen as vandalism, and just wreck-up the atmosphere for others.

Good to know. A useful detail which changes the perception.
