I love a three pass shave with a Merker Futur set on 3 using a feather blade. D.R. Harris lavender scented shaving soap applied with an Omega Silvertip Badger Brush. I finish up with cold water and use a styptic if there are any small nicks, and then apply a bay rum aftershave or Clubman Pinaud. Lately I have been on a bay rum kick and have been using Master's, Superior 70, or Clubman Virgin Island bay rum.

Also sometimes I will mix some bay rum into a shaving mug with a puck of Williams shaving soap and use that to make my lather (with a little water of course).

One of my favorites:

Hot shower
Hot towels (steaming)
Vitos Preshave
Bigelow shave cream
Omega long boar brush
Missle 58 straight razor
Vifrex aftershave balm
Clubman ASL

Lately I've been getting good shaves with my Rolls Razor coming off Spyderco's x-fine ceramic stone and stropped. Then I use a hot towel and glycerin soap, hand rubbed. DM

I normally only shave 3 times per week but I really look forward to each one. It increases the enjoyment when you find something that really works and you know a good shave is headed your way. DM

Right you are! I shave every other day, sometimes third, so there is always a lot for the razor to bite into.

Shower then hot flannel treatment or better, sauna then..

I like Omega Boar, Synthetic brushes and Badger. The function, not material is what's important to me.

Use of soap or cream depends on mood. However, Cella Almond from Italy and most Taylor's of Old Bond St London are confirmed favourites- many other good types though.

Razor: a Merkur 34, 44, 39 or Traveller.

Blade: no question, Feather!

Ice cold wash, then after shave balm or moisturizer. Don't care for alcohol on the face, too irritating.

For me right now I am really loving my Red Tip with a IP Red blade. I also still love my Proraso green shaving soap, its my measuring stick for all other soaps and creams. Aftershaves are another story right now, it all depends on how pleasant my shave was. Zero to little irritation Classic Old Spice all the way, if its really cold Musgo Real Aftershave balm, if its not cold and I have a bit of a rough shave The Gentleman's Refinery balm.

David, I'd appreciate knowing your sharpening routine. I recently bought a Rolls Razor and at the same time bought a Gillette Tech. I've moved from my Mach 3 to the Tech with Feather blades and have been trying to decide whether to use the hone and leather in the case or use regular stone and my stropping belt for the Rolls.

This is my favorite setup; except I could easily exchange the Pen's for the D.R. Harris Lavender mentioned in the OP. Too many "hobbies" these days for me :o
