At first I thought that the battery was going and just didn't have the juice to put out anymore light on high. This happens with my Maglite XL50 pretty quickly and is one of many reasons I switched to a smaller EDC light. I disliked the beam pattern on XL50 too. But last night I put what should be a fully charged rechargeable Energizer AA cell in my Fenix E11. Twisted the head and the light was the same brightness. No easily noticeable change. I guess I need to try a for sure new cell and see what happens. Has this happened to anybody else?

I dug out one of my most recently charged Energizer cells and I got the same results poor results. Now you have to remember that my brother and I have used these cells to power the Wiimote/Wavebird for years. So maybe these Energizer cell stink at powering lights. Need to pick up a new pack of AA alkaline batteries as I seem to be out. Will update with the results.

It could be that its not enough power to kick into the higher mode. Any rechargeable cell will lose potency over a lot of charge cycles. It could also be that there is something blocking the light from detecting the head is screwed down. I don't know for sure, but I think it has to do with the gold ring on the outside edge of the circuit board on the head. maybe there is some gunk built up? have you tried cleaning the light? +1 on the Enelooops, very reliable batteries.

Eh, it just needed a new battery. I should have pointed out that I don't use the rechargeable cells for flashlights. They power game controllers and stuff. But I thought the rechargable cell would be a good test. And I was wrong! I just don't use my light enough to justify the purchase of a smart charger and Eneloops, unfortunately. Thanks for the help guys!!!

Glad you solved it. I use the Eneloops on flashlights, remote controls for the Tv and game console, bluray player, pretty much everything in the house. Haven't needed to buy a battery in 2 years. The Eneloops have already paid for themselves. ;)

Rev, that is a great idea but I have a feeling if I tried that here there would be a lot of "dead" Eneloops thrown out by my family...

Now that you mention it, yes that almost happened to me a couple months ago, lolz

Get the new version , E12 !! Anyway the better LED stuff regulates output so the light is more uniform over the life of the battery . I'll have to try the Eneloops I have them for my camera.

It shows how bright LEDs are that even with half a battery your first thought isn't "the battery is dead"! Not like the old lights where anything less than 75% was a yellow wimpy flicker. maybe its because i got so used to those old 6v lanterns that I'm just happy to carry anything better.
