Today we got a little bit of snow for the first time.. So I went over to my camping gear and grabbed my GI shovel removed it from its sleeve and something fell on the floor, a recluse!!!!

it appeared stunned and was lethargic, I grabbed my handy torch and scorched the sucka so he wouldn't run off, grabbed my camera and some needlenose and took a pic..

I'm not sure if I was bit because from my understanding you hardly feel the bite.. but now I'm all psyched and swear it got me on the finger where there is a red spot...

this is like the 4th one I've found in my pack stuff from months back, guess its a sign I need to get out and use my gear more... :p

sorry for the pic, my PB account is down and I haven't much time to figure flickr out..

Man, thats a nasty booger. I'm glad you posted it. Informing folks about the real thing is one reason I chose my moniker.

if you start to get a dark spot inside the red spot head for the hydrogen peroxide and flush it out REALY well. It can lead to a super nasty infection

I'm almost positive it didn't get me, but couldn't help my imagination get the best of me... I'll keep an eye on the spot just to make sure..

coming from california we only had black widows out there and it was no big deal finding them everywhere around wood... but these recluses freak me out, one probably because I'm not use to them or their behavior.. and their behavior is HIDE..

I have to start taking better care of my bench tools I see.. :)

btw, Andy I thought this was appropriate to post this in your forum..wasn't trying to compete with your avatar :D

they like most things they will leave you alone if you leave them alone. the problem is they are small and hide so one dose not always know when one is bothering them. In another life I did a lot of structural reaper work and spent a lot of time in there environment, proper wound care will head off 90% of the horror story that are out thier. it is my understanding that un like black widow venom they inject and enzyme that causes tissue death at the bite location and infection can set in. Every place on earth has a nasty or two people have to live with these are not the boogie man they just need a little respect and a can of raid;)

I just want you guys to know that I didn't sleep a wink last night after reading this yesterday :(

I had creepy crawlers all over me...ick!
