I'm not a fan of the tactical style knives, but I couldn't pass this one up. It's a 650 from 1994, the first model of the Nighthawk. Now I need to find a new in box one with the bead blasted blade that came out the following year.

A grabber for me was the description of the previous owner. It fit's me to a tee! Plus, there's just no beating the $35 delivered price.

Nice score:thumbup: Very cool find NIB !
It is a really impressive knife in hand!

Very nice, Dave and good price. I have one of the bead blasted ones (1994). Has the same mark as yours. The box is marked 0650-BB-0.

Cool! I guess that the BB model didn't come out in time to make it into the 1994 catalog or price list until the following year. I'd actually like it better with the blade like yours. I have a later model 655 with the BB blade and I think it would be less apt to show use.

I love the handle ergonomics on those. And you got a heckuva good knife for not much money.
Wish I had a picture of mine to share; it's a first year with the display stand and serial number.

Nice score Dave,

The only 650 I have is the black handle BB blade. I got it off the BCCI youth auction, I like the silver & Black version the best!

Move along. No drama here.

Thank you for clearing that up for me. Buck first made and continues to make the Nighthawk. Even I can learn. :)

Who makes the Nighthawk now? Tops? A lot of drama here. Is there a juicy story to be told?

From reading some old threads, I gather that the Nighthawk 650 was designed to be pitched to the military (Navy Seals?) in hopes of getting a contract for them. When that didn't work out, they were put into production for public sale.

I don't see any improvement in the Tops version vs the original. The Molle sheath may be an attraction to some but I just can't see it justifying the $26 price increase.

Now Dave it cost more money to put those cool holes in the blade:barf: and you have to pay a little extra for the Tops name;). I guess the marketing folks research shows that these additions will help stimulate more sales????? I don't get it, but, I'm not the targeted market for the change.

I'm old and old school....it took me awhile to find the silver & black discontinued model of the 650 I wanted. I am still kicking myself for selling the 650/890 build outs that I had.

Buck made the Nighthawk in the mid 90s and it went for several years. In recent past (2011) Buck collaborated with Tops and produced the new Nighthawk, the 2010 catalog was the last to have the Buck Nighthawk. Now it has holes in it:(
