I went to REI today and saw some Otterbox's, so I decided to pick up the smallest one and put together a fire kit.

Contents are some jute twine wrapped around a piece of cardboard, 4 pieces of inner tube, a piece of tinder fungus, charcloth, and a rolled up piece of cardboard tied with cotton yarn, dipped in wax. The misch metal rod and striker are in my pocket, separate from the kit. Any suggestions on what to add?

small Bic lighter, put a ferro rod and striker IN the box, maybe a piece of flint, some PJ cotton balls in a small zip lock...
Those otter boxes are nice, but for a carry kit I kind of like a soft side, like a leather bag

I don't like soft carry cases because I always end up crushing them and whatever's inside them . I don't have a small ferro rod right now, but I'll get one soon. I don't like PJCB's because they make a mess.

Nice kit. For a kit that big it makes sense to carry "easy" firemaking components like REI Stormproof Matches and/or a lighter. Some small pieces of fatwood would be nice, too.

Oh, I have some REI Stormproof Matches sitting around, thanks :D. I don't have any fatwood though :(.
