Well, I was missing my 112 that I had sent away to Buck for the "spa treatment". It was my first lockback knife, and my first Buck. It's a 1980/81 manufactured model that I received as a High School graduation gift in 1982. Very much a trusted knife for many years, but showing it's age, so I sent it off for a bit of TLC. As many of you know, it's a 6-8 week turn around time for Buck to process a knife for such things. So, I was missing my trusty old 112.
However, that's all beside the point...
I was in my local Walmart today and stopped by the sporting goods section. I noticed they had the ebony 110 in stock listed for $34.97, which sure seemed like a pretty good price. A quick check on amazon on my phone and I couldn't find any "classic" 110 for anywhere near that price. It might be considered sacrilege, considering Walmart's recent policy cave-in regarding ammo sales. However, I just couldn't resist the opportunity - so I went ahead and bought it. I didn't really realize how much different the two knives (110 vs. 112) are from each other. While the 112 is great, the 110 is really a substantial knife, yet it's still a nice compact design considering it's a folder. Anyway, just wanted to pass along this deal in case others might be interested.
PS: Blade is consistently sharp and centered, and lockup is very tight with no play. Made in Mexico leather sheath - not the best, but certainly functional. My old 112's leather sheath is nicer for sure - but I'm not a sheath snob.
Edit: I still plan on buying a 117, just watching the prices on it.

Great price. Got mine at Lowe's for $44.99, which I think is still a good price. Came razor sharp.

I too started on a 112. Thought it was the cats meow. Like you carried it for 30 years before buying a 110. Now days, well, where is that ol' 112...

Never went back to a 112. Good luck with your 110.

When I saw walmart had them for 35 bucks a few months ago I went ahead and grabed one lol mine also was very sharp and had good blade centering it Is holding up well so far

The knives are identical. Walmart used to get a nylon sheath but this year they get leather as well.

Are some of the leather sheathes made in the U.S. and some in Mejico?

That could be a difference in price in addition to the box or plastic clamshell.

I'm having trouble keeping up with the sheath issue.

A while back I bought a 110 at Walmart. They had it in the slot for a bucklite. Put it in the box for the bucklite too, which rang up about $20.

When I got my 2019 ebony 110, I opened up quite a few boxes at the retail shop to check the sheath. All said "made in Mexico". Was told that only the 110 autos came with USA made sheaths.

Yeah, this whole sheath thing is becoming a bit confusing.

I thought Buck went to U.S.A. made sheathes a while back.

Maybe I dreamed it.

:)

I was so excited to get one of the new ebony handled Buck 110 that I bought mine at Gander Outdoors earlier this year and paid about $39.99 + tax for it (still a very good price on a great knife). It’s the same knife as Walmart stocks but at the time Walmart still had the laminate handled versions. The new Buck 110 with ebony handles is as nice, if not nicer, than the old ones when it comes to fit and finish. OH

That's pretty cool Mike.
Are those the drawers from the wood tool chest you picked up?

There's probably some weight to that large one.......
