My first 112 (finger grooved)

Well, after picking up my first 110 last year and really really liking it, I started eyeing the 112 as a possible EDC option. The 112 would be perfect for any local ordinances that restrict blade length to 3" and is sized perfectly as a companion or substitute to my large Vantage. Guess what just arrived in the mail? :D

The 112FG I received isn't quite as comfortable as my 110FG (that knife just absolutely melts into my hand), but it's very close. The positioning of the grooves further forward in the handle make the weight distribution feel very butt-heavy versus the more balanced feel I get from my 110. Aesthetically, the 112 seems snub-nosed in comparison to the 110, due to its different proportions.
Although I like the 110 more than the 112, I'm still pretty thrilled about having what is essentially a more pocketable and more compact 110 in my possession. I'm currently EDCing the 112 as a backup to my Vantage, and also just to fondle. There's something about the traditionally styled warm macassar ebony Dymondwood scales and the brass bolsters that feel...right.

Anyway, pictures! These are the two knives I'm carrying today and intend to EDC from this point forward:

The large Vantage and the 112 really are very comparable in size. The 112 is a little bit thicker and heavier, but the Vantage is a bit wider. The blades also have similar cutting edge profiles, though the 112 offers a sharper/pointier tip and the Vantage offers a bit more edge at the tip to cut with. It's kind of fun drawing parallels between the two knives, almost as if the Vantage were a more modern brother of the 112.

(now to sit back and wait for 110 Dave to offer his congratulations on my purchase of a girl's knife :D)

Nice! I edc my FG 112 often. It keeps a prefect balance between size and toughness IMO.

Nice Pair Gunda...My most common EDC combo is a 112 and a small Vantage...

That's a good idea. A small vantage and my 112 are my planned EDCs for outings to areas where I know the local knife ordinances restrict blade length to 3 inches.

I'm really digging the 112. Now I just need nongrooved versions of the 110 and 112 and I can move on to Buck's fixed blades.

I always thought I was more into modern styled or aesthetically "tacticool" styled knives, but Buck's classics like the 110, 119, and their variants really appeal to me. I guess there's a reason they're classic designs that have survived for so long.

Love the classics!!!

The tacky-kools are so ephemeral. Classics are forever. They're the ones we'd want on our hip if the SHTF.

:)

If you had to choose only two knives to ever be able to carry, you could do alot worse than those 2. Knice nives. I also prefer the fingergrooves....though I dont have many 110 or 112 FG's now that I think about it:confused:

The 112 has really grown on me these past couple days. I've gotten used to the shorter length and almost don't perceive the stubbiness of the blade anymore. In fact, with the finger grooves, I appreciate the front hook bolster and the way that blends directly into the first finger groove. It actually makes the 110 finger grooves look a little odd to me, with the way they cut into the front bolster and don't really blend into the corner of the handle. Whereas the finger grooves on the 110 look obviously cut out of a non-grooved handle, the 112 grooves look like they could have been intended as a design feature from the very beginning. Very nicely implemented.
