My First 112 Ranger (But not the last)

Well, yesterday I finally received my backordered 112 Ranger FG. I didn't really know what to expect, as I didn't get a chance to handle one.

Right out of the box I was impressed. The walk and talk was perfect and the gorgeous brass was offset by the wood inserts that matched both for color and grain direction. The wood couldn't have been better matched if it was a Custom. I ordered this one with finger grooves and I am glad that I did. The knife fits my medium/small hands perfectly, with a secure and comfortable grip. This is one solid knife and overall, the fit and finish was more than excellent.

The only down side I ran into was the blade sharpness, which was not up to Buck's regular high caliber. A few swipes on a fine Arkansas and some stropping on cardboard quickly brought the edge to shaving sharpness. Ya just gotta love that 420HC!

The knife comes with it's own fitted leather sheath (as you all know) and I am wearing it as I type this. Being smaller than a 110, the sheath tends not to snag to the same degree as a leather 110 sheath. It is easy to forget that you are wearing the Ranger.

So, for anyone that want's a smaller knife that feels like a scaled down 110, I highly recommend the 112 Ranger.:thumbup:

P.S. - No pics this time, but if it ever stops raining on the 'wet' coast, I'll post some.

Glad to hear ya like yours. I've been thinkin about pickin one up too.
Seems like the smaller size would be even easier for everyday carrying..

I recently purchased a Bucklite FG with the 112 blade and I like it. It was new and the blade had a decent edge on it but a few strokes on the Arkansas stone made it nice! It is a good addition to my 110 Cabela's AG.

Guess I better keep an eye in the classifieds for the rest of your 112 clearance ... :D

Amen to that brother! When Dave sneezes, the world of Buck get's a cold.

I hate when Dave does that... ... 112's and 422's are great for me, that is... :D ... And I still collect 110's and anything made by Buck in the USA...

I was a 110 snob for decades. Then I found this forum and Five-0 convinced me to give one a try. Love 'em. I was impressed with the form, fit, and function.

While I still focus on hoarding the 110, one of my favorite EDC knives is my 112NS and one of most treasured Bucks is a 112 Two Dot received from a Buck Brother.

And for your second 112, go for it!

And if you can get really lucky, one of these:

he joined the bcci as a yearly member at the blade show 07 and he now has a greatly inproved knolage of the 112

i talked with him today and he shows his off as DUC once in a while...

Yep...some of the stuff these gents have is flat out amazing isn't it?
Maybe Doc D. (Darryl) will chime in and post some of his pony herd...he's a big 112 fan too.

You guys are killing me! It's bad enough that I am a 110 fanatic, but after seeing those 112s'...

Chris, was that 112 with the distressed leather case an LE or a production model?
