Well, yesterday I finally received my backordered 112 Ranger FG. I didn't really know what to expect, as I didn't get a chance to handle one.
Right out of the box I was impressed. The walk and talk was perfect and the gorgeous brass was offset by the wood inserts that matched both for color and grain direction. The wood couldn't have been better matched if it was a Custom. I ordered this one with finger grooves and I am glad that I did. The knife fits my medium/small hands perfectly, with a secure and comfortable grip. This is one solid knife and overall, the fit and finish was more than excellent.
The only down side I ran into was the blade sharpness, which was not up to Buck's regular high caliber. A few swipes on a fine Arkansas and some stropping on cardboard quickly brought the edge to shaving sharpness. Ya just gotta love that 420HC!
The knife comes with it's own fitted leather sheath (as you all know) and I am wearing it as I type this. Being smaller than a 110, the sheath tends not to snag to the same degree as a leather 110 sheath. It is easy to forget that you are wearing the Ranger.
So, for anyone that want's a smaller knife that feels like a scaled down 110, I highly recommend the 112 Ranger.:thumbup:
P.S. - No pics this time, but if it ever stops raining on the 'wet' coast, I'll post some.
