My wife got me my first buck 124 for my birthday. I could not be happier, this is one heck of a knife. Anybody know what the handle material is?

That's diamondwood, a resin-impregnated high pressure laminate, that's been dyed to be similar to cocobolo in appearance. About the only material that would be more durable/trouble free would be phenolic (G10, micarta, etc.). It'll stay looking good without swelling, shrinking or splitting even in fairly extreme conditions. Congrats on a nice knife--a truly classic pattern from Buck.

Bigdogman08,

I love the 124 and that one is sweet! Let your wife know how wonderful she is to get you a super Buck knife like that. Also post a photo of your Mastiff, maybe you can get him/her to hold your masive 124;)

Thank you for the birthday wishes, and yes she is truly wonderful and I wouldn't know what to do without her. I will definitely get a picture of my mastiff on here for my profile picture haha.

Welcome Mast . Whats the stamping on your blade ? Great knife, a lot of guys here really like that model and I cannot figure out why . ;) Buck went to that style box in 78 and the birchwood laminate in 1982 . So, tell us the stamp and we'll give you more information . My best advice to you is, better keep that wife and it don't matter if she can cook or not !Happy Birthday and may you have many more---Buck knives ! DM

That is my all time favorite knife! I got mine for Christmas in 1989. It has disassembled all but one of the deer I've killed over the years. I love the Frontiersman!
