Hi all,

After much research, many posts, conversations, articles read, pictures perused, bullets fired, and guns fondled, I finally made my decision and "pulled the trigger" on my first 1911, the Ruger SR1911.

I just picked it up this morning. I'm gonna strip it, clean it, and oil it up before I take it to the range tomorrow for it's first test... 300 rounds of 230 grain FMJ.

To go with her, I purchased a Galco IWB King Tuk holster, as well as three 8 round wilson combat mags. I'm not sure what, if any modifications I will do to her, but I can tell you I'm leaving her alone for about the first 500 rounds or so. Then I might change out the grips and think about getting some match grade parts down the road, but for now, she's gonna stay how she was made.

Thanks for looking, and without further adieu, here she is!

JGON

Very cool. There is nothing else that even compares to a nice 1911 imho... Enjoy

Exactly. I'm interested to see how the Ruger stacks up. Keep us posted.

You did very good. Ruger always has made very good guns.

Jealous, I've wanted one of those since I first heard they were announced, budget just can't take another 1911 right now. The only things I would do to that gun is switch to a fiber optic front sight, pachmayr grips and add a full length guide rod.

Awesome Looking 1911. I've been keepin an eye on those rugers, they look very promising.

FYI, Ruger like many firearms OEM will return a modified firearm to their original spec's if/when you send in for service...you may or may not receive your upgrades back.

That caveat out of the way bet your new SR1911 will be a shooter and trouble-free. I'm on a waiting list for one..they are slow in the distribution pipeline and are an allocated item with many distributors.

Enjoy your new pistol.

I didn't even know Ruger made a 1911, must be something new. I have a bit of a Ruger collection and wouldn't mind adding that beauty to it. Can't wait to hear how it shoots.

JGON,

Good 1911 choice. I stumbled into one about two months ago and have put over 500 rounds through it with absolutely zero problems. Ruger got this design right and for what you get, you simply can't beat the price. Great design, solid shooter and well put together, need I say any more.

Check out Hickock45's two part video on YouTube for a great review. He not only goes over the mechanics of the gun, but also puts it through it's paces with some live shooting.

Enjoy your purchase!!!!

Congrats! I just bought a Colt Gold Cup Trophy a couple weeks ago, it is my first 1911. If you haven't already taken it apart to clean it you might want to watch a tutorial or take it to you local gun shop to help you the first time. It can be a little tricky (for me anyways) and they will show you how to prevent an "idiot scratch/mark".

Good point above, but the good thing is this is a Series 70 so doesn't have the "firing pin block safety = fewer parts and a little easier to field strip. Ruger put in a lightweight titanium firing pin to overcome not having this safety feature. Like I said, they put some thought into this gun and made a real beauty. Best 1911 deal on the market IMHO.

From the pics you posted, those tolerances look pretty tight. Ruger's new to 1911s, so I'm curious how the QC will stand up to time.

I loved 1911s (and still do) but the Sig P220 kinda took over that niche for me. In any case, that's a nice looking 1911 and I hope to read your range time with it.
