Hi all, after browsing this traditional folder for a while, it was obvious that I simply HAD to try Great Eastern Cutlery.
So, my first two GEC knives arrived this week and while I haven't really used them yet, I can already say that the quality perception is very good indeed.
I just made a few pictures. One is the Tidioute SARPNT Pioneer with reptile bone handle and a carbon steel blade. It's rather big for EDC to be honest, but a good classic working folder. The other one is a midsized trapper with black micarta handles, 2 steel bolsters and 440C blades. This is truly a little gem, perfect for EDC.
Both are "soulful" knives. I expect to make a video clip about them, once I know them better, and here are a few pics:

(My trapper-like knives, from top to bottom a German Eye, a Rough Rider, the GEC, and an elegant Magnum with abalone inlays.)

Nice !!!!! Thank you for the pictures. That shows better than words how different the two models are. :)

Gad! That Tidioute serpent is a real python! The size of the thing....Fine pix as usual thanks.

Both are great looking knives, but the medium trapper really appeals to me.

Dagon, great choices! Also check out the GEC Tidioute pattern 54 Big Jack. It has great blades and falls in between your first two for size. Beautiful in burnt grizzly bone.

love their knives.bought 5 in last 6 wks. the heat treat on the 1095 is outstanding, good f. & f. heavy construction they beg to be used.

The trapper almost looks like a gents single blade knife in your third pic. Very nice. I like those sarpent handles also.

Congrats they are both beauties, but I am really taken with that 440c Trapper:thumbup:
Enjoy them:)

Beautiful knives bro. I'm really wanting one of these. Maybe for Christmas? I'm looking forward to your video reviews. Thanks for sharing.

Meanwhile I found time to make a little review clip, so if you want to see it in the hand etc, then you can consult my video HERE.

Good clip as usual:thumbup:

The Black Micarta on that Great Eastern actually gives it the ebony look, most attractive and durable too. I'd be pleased to see them do a bit more in stainless, such as a No.73 Liner lock. I'm also a fan of the tubes Great Eastern use, pretty well crush proof in the post.

Dagon, Do you remember when you got your German Schlieper "Eye" Sodbuster or how old it is? I ask as I have had mine for maybe 10 years, and have never seen one with the "Eye" eschueon in the handle. Thanks, John

I bought my backlocking german eye sodbuster around a year ago.

Btw how's the GEC 440C perform?

I only used it a bit thus far (too many knives...) so I can't really comment on the edgeholding. It's probably similar to my other 440C knives, meaning, largely good enough in the context of my lighter use.
