Overall, AdV knives weren't really my cup of tea aesthetically for a long time. As time rolls on tastes change and lately I was becoming more interested. I pulled the trigger on a new generation3 tac butcher.

With all the horror stories involving direct business with Andre I went the dealer route and found one I liked the look of on Knifecenter. Despite the bad business reviews, the knives themselves are usually well regarded.

It's due to arrive tomorrow..looking forward to it.
Feel free to post pics of yours and include some opinions.

I don't own an ADV but I have talked to Andre through a few texts and he was always quick to respond and always polite. I will most likely get one next year. Let us know what you think.

He's at the very top of the "Hall of Shame" here on bladeforums. I wouldn't deal with him or own anything his hands touched. To each their own.

He definitely has mixed reviews when it comes to his interactions with his customers. FWIW, he's been nothing but nice to me. Honestly, I've owned two of his knives through the second market, and both were awesome. I think he's a bit hasty when it comes to responding to certain situations, but overall he's a decent guy. To avoid any trouble whatsoever, I would buy from one of his US dealers.

First impression..it was actually lighter than I anticipated. The blade is narrower than I anticipated too. Both of which make for pleasant surprises. It's a pretty damn good slicer.
It's super comfortable in hand. All 4 fingers fit, and the disc (while not being ideal for opening) makes for a great thumb pedestal.
It flips open quick and smooth. Lockup is solid at about 30%.
The steel lock insert makes disengaging easy.
Overall cool knife...I see why they're so popular.

That is just about as insane cool as it gets Brian!!!
Enjoy the new girl!

One question....was is sickeningly sharp out of the box??
I remember a couple guys complaining about sharpness.
Thanks
Joe

Just as sharp as any new blade I've bought.
The edge grind is perfectly straight and symmetrical.
Slices through phone book paper without any snags.

Another feature I didn't mention is the clip.
It's totally unique as far as I've seen, in that it attaches to the scales via 2 standoffs instead of just screws. The flange is broad and upturned at a good angle so it slides over just about any thickness of pant pocket with ease. Holds steady in the pocket...easy to remove.
Damn near pocket clip perfection.

I'd be all over one of these if I could carry it tip-down.

Looks like you got a beaut! Glad you like it. Those pleasant surprises are always a plus with a new knife.

Not quite unique. It's been done by several custom makers and I'm pretty sure there's even an import Kershaw with the same style clip.

Actually it's the Kershaw Amplitude.

I don't doubt it's been done before by others.
None of the Amplitudes I've seen have a similar clip though.

Hogue EX-02s have the same general build. Aluminum barrel spacers, steel clip and screws.

My Thorburn L51 has a "raised clip" like that, except it's G10 instead of 2 spacers. Jason Guthrie makes a clip almost identical to the Butchers.

Too bad ADV isn't as respectable as the rest of the SA custom makers...

I'd be curious as to what THEIR opinion is of him.

Hi Guys,

Despite the Negatives I have read about of Him, I picked up A custom Ronin. Got mine From Knifecenter too, and I must say, it is amazing!
This is also my first ADV and I am happy I did get it as there are few of them.
