Well today was another lucky day, i got a text from fellow BF member/friend/sponsor
Brett Mathews to be at his shop at 8, i had been helping him rearrange his forge area, but had know idea we were gonna get busy, he handed me a box 1080 and 15n20 pieces and a i got deburring and cleaning up on the bader, about 60 pieces later we started stackin for an intial count of 13 layers. We clamped and welded them up and fired the forge! His forge is a ribbon burner style with a variable speed blower, i havent been around alot of forges but i can say this one does the job!! And the press....well i feel like i was cheating, but when i get back up to Dan Westlinds with Brett, ill be hurting he assuerd me of that. Brett did the initial press as i proved later when drawing it out to be a little heavy handed on the hydros
? Next step is that ill be grinding and cleaning the billet up, do some more cutting and stacking and then we'll begin the process all over again, and again. Ill update this post as i progress, hopefully everything turns out well in the billet and ill get to make some knives from it! GHaile

(im wondering how im gonna make a knife out of you)
phone pics suck!!
UPDATE!!!!
Hi all!
Well i finished my first damascus billet and im purty excited! Heres some pics of the action. Amazing amount of work goes into creating this stuff, and im in aww of the masters
In this pic im cleaning up the billet, (i was told i have 30 of these waiting for me to clean up in Wa.) Next i cut into 3 and restacked, welded, forged and drawed to finish size, using the press it wasnt that difficult, if id used a power hammer a regular hammer for that matter who knows how things would have went?! Again i grinded it clean of scale and was looking for intrusions, flux, etc. everything looked well so it went to the surface grinder!
Im happy with the results it has a nice big random pattern, and should be solid through out, we did have some concerns with the quality of the 15n20, but regardless im happy!
