It's no Winkler but it's pretty darn nice!

1055 Steel, 13 inches in length, weighs about 16 ounces, resin soaked 550 paracord handle, gun blued steel, verticly oriented spike, the "hook" is sharpened at the tip but not all the way back, the main cutting edge is 3.25 inches. It's sharp, stout, and FAST!!!

And to think it started life as an Estwing Carpenter's Hatchet that I slowly re-ground and kept cool...

Thoughts???

Thanks Euroross!
Scouter27, I used a basic bench grinder and a harbor freight 1x30 belt sander. Keep it cool though. Pretty much every pass I dunked it in cool water. And do it bare handed so you can feel any heat buildup. Its slow going but I am really impressed with the end product.

Very nice mod. I have two Estwing stacked leather carpenters hatchets and I'm wondering how you got the lanyard loop on the handle.

Hi Tom, I used the rubber gripped version and the hole was already there. I don't know about the leather. Perhaps drilling two small holes in the but plate and hooking a loop through?

I think you can really get grinding on it without much worry, I've reground all kinds of things and have yet to lose temper. It would need to be approaching 350*f before any transformation would begin which is way hotter than just unconfortable in the hand!

Great lookin mod!
