this is an old Oxhead felling axe that was covered in rust and needed to be re handled. I sanded and polished the head then cold blued it, the handle was found at a local farmers market and was sanded and oiled with boiled linseed oil. I then sharpened it, it doesn't look like it from the pictures but you could shave with it. this might be the start of a new addiction!

The cold bluing was very simple. The rust removal and polishing was a lengthy process as I did it by hand. I used a bottle of hardware store bought gun cold bluing and did 2 applications. First clean the head and rinse with hot water. Apply cold bluing evenly and leave on for 10 min. Rinse with hot water and dry. Buff with steel wool, rinse with hot water and blue again once more. If you get streaking just buff and reblue until happy.
