Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to share with you all my very first Atwood; The DreadKnot! As a matter of fact I just finish dressing her and feeding her some paracord, lol. She told me to tell y'all hey and thought you would like to see her all jazzed up!

I mean no personal offense, but it looks like you took away every useable aspect of the tool with the paracord wrap.

LOL, no offense taken.......... I figured that maybe some would think that, but essentially it's still very functional. :D

If you look closely the cap lifter and 1/4" hex opening are still visible and in working order; followed by the most important and reason for me buying (marlin spike), which is such a useful aspect of the tool and what makes it the Dreadknot. Especially when working with tight knots in rope or paracord as I, as I'm sure you can tell I use frequently from the photos :-).

Before I began the wrapping phase, I strongly considered 3 or 4 other designs before becoming content with the one you see before you. It was really trial and error as I had to start over quite a few times, until finally succeeding in keeping all if not most of the tool's functionality.

Now to the good part, how it works.......... which is simple really, but this coming from the designer and maybe a little difficult to attain from an observer. If you look at the tail end; the knot you see before is actually a slip knot and easily adjustable. So when I need the (marlin spike) tool, I simply slide the knot and bead up away from the tail and use it as I would normally. Then once I'm finished, I return them to their original positions, volia!

I would also like to add; the tail end with the knot and loop add handle length and great ergonomics when using the opposite end, (e.g) cap lifter and 1/4" hex opening. Not to mention, the loop is very useful as it functions as a true "lanyard" and prevents loss, theft, or simply dropping.

So all in all I think the wrap is a great companion for the tool, and adds both: beauty and functionality. :)

I kinda like the paracord. If you're not going to put it on your keys, the why not have it on a lanyard like that?
Here's mime. :)

Thanks Moxy! I love the shade of blue on your Pest. Do you have any other Atwood's to share?

Nope, thats my one and only. I was lucky to get that one at the retail price. The Pest is my favorite, nice and simple and a decent size. The price of Atwood tools is so high on the secondary market. I wan't to get another as a back up.

I used to be into Atwood stuff until I realized what was going on. Peter lives in turners falls ma, he contracts his work out to Lampson and Goodnow which is 2 towns over. They cut the blanks, he finishes them, then sells them at a premium cost. His stuff is cool, but not that cool. He is robbing people. And nobody knows or cares.

Well you're certainly entitled to your opinion.

It doesn't bother me though. I'm not a collector of Atwood tools. I only have 1 right now and thats enough for me. If you can get them direct from him I think the price is fair. Premium materials, excellent design, nice finishing work.... I think I paid $60 for my Pest. Admittedly that is alot for just a keychain bottle opener, but I'd rather support a single maker in his shop rather than buy something that comes from China. If he really wanted to rip people off he could double his prices and they'd still sell. I've worked with titanium before and it's an expensive material to machine. If he needs to outsource the water jet work to save money, thats fine with me. I'm not really into the whole midtech vs custom debate. I think it's silly. Weather he made them personally, or outsorces certain operations, or they grow on a tree in his backyard, I don't care. It's still a personal business/hobby that he runs to feed his family. It's his product that he designed and realized.
