My first Axis: 530 or 556?

I am looking to grab an axis. I have a KaBar Dozier, Leek, Calypso Jr, and Meerkat, but I definately need an Axis. I have considered both the mini grip and the 530. I like the thin profile of the 530, and while I am sure that like the swolen handles on the mini-grip (it does feel nicer, but for me it does not really effect my grip (comparinging to my non swolen knves) and takes up pocket space.

One thing I am wondering is what the handle is made of on the 530. It does not seem to say. If it is metal, I would like to hear about how it is to grip. My leek was my first knife, and after I got my Calypso Jr., I could not stand its slick grip.

I am also open to other suggestions, but I am not really lookning to spend much more than 60, but if you can explain why another model will serve me signifigantly beter, I would consider a knife a little bit over 100 (keep in mind that if I did this, I might not be able to get a Native for a while, so the quality over quantity would be a big factor)

Thanks.

It's zytel with steel half-liners, like in the normal size Grip.

It's my "stealth-knife" ;)
I have it always with me at jogging and no one can see it - 530 is veery thin. And light.

Mini Grip - I own that one from Cabelas - is thicker and noticeably heavier despite of smaller size (because of full steel liners).

Well, and more "sheeple friendly" - no one asks "what do You want to do with that dagger??"

lol, yeah, i really like the shape, I always thought a daggar shape was cool. The mini-grip kinof had a priority with me as becoming my sheeple knife, but its a damn knife, i really like the design of the 530 (just noticed it today). What do you think of it slicing performance? To double check the back is a false edge and its a flat grind from the spear spine to both the edge and swedge right (making sure my eyes dont fail me).

i can get a blue grip later if i need someting sheeple friendly, but then again, if i am in a sensitive area, i can whip out my leatherman micra, i love the ergos on that for such a small knife, open it all the way up and it fits my long skinny hand pretty well.

Thanks for the reply.

Zerileous,I have the Mini Grip and now I want the 530.I like the thin knife. The Grip I think is thick for a 3in blade folder.I like the lightweight 530. Steve

Well, I would say, the slicing performance of 530 is similar to that of 556 - blade of 530 has not so high grind as 556, but it's thinner.

The 530 feels cheap, but it'll hold up. your caly jr and meerkat are sheeple friendly enough, time to have something that isn't
