Well here it is, my first Bark River knife. It is the Lil' Bird and Trout with red micarta purchased from Knivesshipfree. It is about the same size as a mini-griptilian, very comfortable in the hand and my first one.:D:D
Good thing I have 3 on order (but not red:(;))

The negatives were I was afraid I was going to break it inserting it into the sheath the first couple of times as the sheath was not form fitted and the blade is 1/16" thick. That changed as the sheath got used to the knife- it is very snug and the knife is not going anywhere.
The most surprising thing was the knife came fairly DULL!!!!
I have never heard of anything like this before but it only took a couple of seconds on the sharpmaker before it was good again.

Now I wonder when the next 3 are coming- starting to jones here people, this company is as bad as a drug:D

(feel free to show off yours here as well- help me get my fix)

Congrats on the Barkie! Barkies are my favorite knives!

You do realize that Bark River knives have convex edges right?

Nice!! I have the North Star, Bamboo with red liners & the Mini-North Star, Antique Ivory with red liners also. Both of mine came near razor sharp. Very sharp! I suggest you look into the proper way to sharpen a convex edge. Very iteresting and works great on Barkies. What are the others gonna be? Hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine. M

Thats a nice little knife! And the Red works---always. Thanks for the pic.

I LOVE the red linen on their smaller knives! Beautiful puchase! Maybe consider that convex sharpening (though the Sharpmaker will surely do the trick). I've never yet had a Barkie arrive dull. If I had to use the Sharpmaker, I would use the fine white stones and maybe 3 or 4 VERY *light* passes per side.

Here is a similar design with a much thicker blade. Mini-Northstar, blade steel 12C27 Stainless, about 1/8" thick:

I had a mini-canadian arrive dull, but I took it as a challenge to learn how to sharpen convex knives. Now, all my knives eventually end up convex. To me, it is just sharper.

Great looking knife!!!

Nothing wrong with using a conventional sharpener to put a small bevel on a convex edge, or to just touch it up, but you should only do it rarely. I don't have a bark river, but with my two convex edge knives (fallknivens) all I do is strop 'em after every serious use to keep 'em sharp, no "sharpening" required.

I own a Northstar, mikro canadian coupled together and yesterday I ordered mated Green micarta handled Bravo-1 & PSK to be coupled together with matching black leather sheaths....

UPDATE:
I know it is a convex- just did not want to hurt my legs going downstairs to get the sandpaper and mousepad! The edge is very thin and fits the sharpmaker very well for a quick touch up. I looked at it later under 15X and the whole edge is chipped out!!! Mine is a first production run so maybe this has something to do with it. I smoothed out most of the nicks with a couple of swipes and will get the rest out with a proper convexing. I have decided to carry it today and tomorrow and see how well it performs EDC. It is different carrying a FB in the city on my belt as they are usually around my neck- I don';t think I have had a FB on my belt in maybe 10 years (heck, most of the time I don't even carry a belt but for this knife I'll change).

I just got my first barkie yesterday. A blaze orange G10 PSK. This knife is awesome. Mine did have some small chips also when viewed under a jewelers loupe, mine says 1st production run also. a few passes on some 2500 grit sandpaper cleaned em right up, followed my a couple strops on the leather strap and this thing is wicked sharp. My only complaint is other than the knivesshipfree sheath I cant seem to find one thats leather. Oh well, small worries for a great knife and I can easily get a leather sheath made. Now my only problem is deciding what handle material I want on the bravo1.

Stretch,

That mini-Northstar is beautiful! What kind of handles are those?

Varg, those are dark curly maple. I actually wanted a maroon linen but couldn;t find one. Next choice was RED LINEN, but at the last minute, I decided on the maple. In my opinion, red linen (or maroon or black carbon fiber) looks *perfect* on the smaller Bark Rivers, and Kris' photo is evidence of that!

Also, the Sharpshooter sheath that comes with the mini-Northstar (and evidently the Bid&Trout too) is Bark River's finest sheath offering to date (of the ones I own, anyway). They're still not wet-molded, but they're just nicer fit-and-finish - even better than the larger Sharpshooters with the firesteel loop!

I like Bark River products -- I just wish they would offer a high quality kydex sheath as an option when you buy one of their fixed blades...

Anyone else feel this way (not trying to hijack this thread -- just curious)?

BTW, very nice knife; I'm sure it'll give you many years of great service. FWIW & IMO, an easy blade design to reprofile if you decide to go that route...good luck

Here are a few of mine.
Fox River and Micro Canadian II combo in green micarta with red liners.
Bravo 1 in artificial ivory micarta with red liners.

i orded mine from DLT and kydex was an option ,I declined and went with the leather so i can marry the bravo & psk together in the same sheath
