As I had mentioned earlier this week, I went to Harbor freight this afternoon and picked up a $99 bead blast cabinet. I also bought 25lb of glass beads 80 grit.
Here are some before and after pictures of an Apprentice Mean Street I picked up on the forums a few weeks ago.
Let me know what you think?
I am happy with the results.
Mike

These are the before.

you should try sandblasting it first then blast it with the glass bead,,it really makes a awsome finish when you do it that way.

the glass bead alone dosent have enough cutting grit to remove grinding marks and blimishes on the metal surface.

so try sandblasting it first then blast it with the glass to peen the rough surface from the sandblasting,,,you'll be surprised at how much better finish you'll have. when you do it that way.

that does look great!!!

What kind of compressor do you have? Gal. tank? CFM?

Very nice! You guys keep this up and I'm going to have to start shopping for a blast cabinet... and a compressor.

a blast cabinet really comes in handy for bead blasting your blades, cleaning engine parts, etc..

Harbor Freight has a couple diffrent benchtop models and has the best prices on them that i know of.

I paid around $135.00 for my cabinet and 50 pounds of glass bead.

here is the model i have

I have a 25-gallon 5hp (Antique) Coleman compressor (set at 125psi)I have the next cabinet up from Galaxy, the one with the light in it (woooo) $99 + $19 for the beads and while I was waiting in line, this "Little old lady"
standing next to me gives me a $10 off coupon since it was only good if you spent $100 or more and she was not going too (spend that much). So $120 out the door, and I got this new toy.

I went at the Micarta just as aggressively as I went at the steel (tough stuff!!!) It does not appear to affect the pattern , just clean it up some.

I will probably try some other blast media in the future although I think the Glass Beads did a good job by themselves.
