My first Becker knife!

So I had a Gerber GhostStrike for my EDC but I dropped it on a Ceramic tile and it snapped the tip off so when I went to replace it I remembered hearing (from people on these forums) about a little guy called the Becker Necker which was made with carbon steel rather than stainless. I ordered the knife from Amazon and I have been carrying it around my neck every day since.

I love my BK11, way better knife for the same price I paid for the inferior Gerber. I was hesitant to buy the BK11 because people were saying the sheath sucked. Mine was super stiff when I got it and it took me almost a week of playing with it before it was worked in enough and now it holds my knife just right. There's no looseness or rattle to it. I had to tighten up the safety clip thing a little. Being left handed I also greatly appreciate the ambidextrous sheath. It was also the sharpest out of the package knife I have ever owned.

I have even used it on a construction site at my cousins house and other than some dirt it's no worse for wear! (I can't figure out how to get white paint of my blade without cutting myself or damaging the finish...}

I LOVE my Becker Necker, I plan to buy two more, one for my camping bag as a backup and one in my day pack for a backup.

Mr. Becker you make good knives! I can't wait to see what the future holds.

They are great knifes and to be able to price them where they do is incredible. I have found them to be a little bit addictive. I purchased my first on about a year ago, I currently have 7 Beckers and at least 7 on my must have list. One piece of advice find and buy a BK5 while you can still get it for a normal price. It has been discontinued and is one of the most useful knifes you can buy.

Welcome bro to the better side of BF ;)

Great knife and willl serve you well for many years....

I'm not sure about the BK5 as I like small knives and I have the bigger knife area covered with a TOPS Brother's of Bushcraft that my local surplus store gave me a killer deal on...

The 5 is discontinued. Better get one while ya can. You'll love it in the hand feels Great.

The BK5 Looks like a nice enough knife and all but I'm not really a collector and I have no need or want for it. It's not really my style I guess. Also to me it looks like it's more weapon than tool but that's just based off of a few pictures. It's a nice knife and Tanker 1/66 those two pictures you posted look great, thanks for showing me.

The whole weapon vs tool thing is sort of a big deal here in Canada, from what I've noticed from my own experience is that if something looks like a dangerous weapon it will be classed as such... based off of looks... In Canada it's illegal to carry a weapon concealed or not. I can't carry a gun, knife, brass knuckles, mace, tazers or any of that good stuff that would stop a bad guy from hurting me. I can however carry a tool because tools are not against any laws. Tools can have more than one purpose, I can open boxes, cut string and open my mail without an issue with my Becker Necker, it's still a knife though and could also be used to defend myself if the need arises AND avoid charges while wandering around the city with a knife around my neck. Also the knife around my neck in plain view to the world adds to the "Maybe don't pick that guy to rob" factor.

Therefore my Becker Necker, while being a knife, is a tool if I use it as such and think of it as such and I can explain away that knife to a police officer without any lecture or without weapon charges. If I were carrying the BK5 with it's 8 inch blade I'd just get accused of carrying a weapon because a knife that big isn't necessary.

Sorry about the rant, as you can see I'm trying to convince myself I don't like the knife because I actually do, really like it, it's so sleek and pretty and I lied about it not being my style, I'd feel like a ninja with that. I just can't justify a knife so big when I already have my TOPS BOB and my Kukri. Also 8 inch blade is too big for my tastes when I'm out camping so I wouldn't use it which makes it even harder to justify.

If only I had more money... there's a few Becker's I've been looking at.

The bk5 is a tool.

Canadian, you gotta keep in mind where you are and what you're up to. I belt carry my 11 everywhere. I don't belt carry my bk9 or my kabar1217 at the grocery store, but i wouldn't think twice about it on the trail. even though they're tools first, the check out girls might get a little nervous.

and while we can't have mace, we can have bear spray. but again, probably not as cool on the street as in the bush. just my $0.02 cdn.

and congrats on the 11. it's big little knife.

Thanks guys, when I'm on the trail or camping I carry my TOPS Brothers of Bushcraft knife as well as my BK11, that big little knife comes with me any place I can legally have it. I am going to miss it severely when I fly out to Newfoundland next weekend for 5 days. I am not checking any baggage so I can't bring it with me since trying to bring it in my carry on would probably get me on a no fly list.

My knives are also tools period, I am not trained in knife fighting and being short and scrawny I'd end up being cut/stabbed with my own knife.

So far the only issue with the knife (besides not being able to take it on the airplane with me) is that I can't throw spark from my ferro rod with it due to the protective coating on the blade.

Paint will come off - without part of your finger- with an old toothbrush and mineral spirits or denatured alcohol.
Or just leave it there and use it.

If you're lucky, the future holds a bk16.

I think my next Becker will be a BK22 though that BK16 is just my style too.. I also like the BK10 and BK14 too.. I see a few Becker's in my future.

I like my "big" knives to have around a 5 inch blade and so far 4 1/4 seems to be doing the trick for me. I have yet to run into a situation where I thought to myself "I wish I had a bigger knife" though a few times I did wish for something smaller and the BK11 filled that spot perfectly.
